How did you get into domaining?

I'm curious to know the stories behind how others ended up in this business. Care to share?

I'll start the ball rolling. I came at this sort of through the backdoor. Unlike most people that start off with money they want to invest, I started out with a few domains that I had acquired for a business as an end user. They were all along the lines of CityService.com and ServiceCity.com and when it was time to move away from the city where I lived, I had the "brilliant" and "original" idea that my competitors might have an interest in acquiring those domains. At that point, I had never heard of domaining or even heard of anyone selling a domain. Moreover, I had no idea what I should charge for them but I figured I would give it a shot and try to get as much for them as possible. So, I sent out 40 emails and lo and behold I managed to get one sale. Several months later, I tried again and sold 3 more. That's when I realized that there was potential for a business so I reinvested the earnings from those sales and have been doing this full time for the last 3 years. The End. :)

Thanks, Rick.

I do rely on lead generation of relevant End Users, and at times i just park my names for the end users to reach out to me.

Any specific process you are using to connect with end users, seems folks are intrigued by your success

'Relevance'. I do not spam the end users. Generate 5-6 leads at max. and they convert as well.
Everything is done manually, based on research. I believe no automated tools come handy when it is about contacting those that make the decisions.

Also, i have lately been reporting very few sales, as the people i have been selling to are being bombarded by fellow domainers. It is very usual. :)

You're an inspiration, Nit. :)

Thanks, mark.

I credit all/ any success to Namepros, and some of the best folks i have met over here.

Good people are all around us, we just have to have an eye for them. And yes, there are some cunning folks too, but that is all a part of this business. I wish you great success ahead as well, along with wishing everyone who is taking domaining seriously and putting research into buying domains.

I collected vintage zippo lighters. I needed a lot of money, so I decided to find some ways to earn money online. Somewhere I've read about sex.com sale. Began to read more and understand that you can sell domains with profit.
Registered 5 or 8 extra crappy domains, listed at Sedo. Noone was intersted. I decided to find the place where I would be able possibly to sell them. Found NP.
Tried to sell them here with no result. Forgot about it.
In 4 month 1 of this names was sold for $150 at Sedo.
This is was the beginning. I began to read and buy.
In a year or so I sold all my zippos to buy more domains ))

wow. I heard about domaining from anticareer.com, got excited and went ahead to read two ebooks. But the books were limited. There were many gaps in my knowledge. I met friends at Nairaland (@jideofor) who told me about Namepros. And I just cant be more excited. I'm like a dog with two tails. LOL. Namepros rocks. I doff my hat to y'all. Although, I'm yet to make my first flip, i guess I'm through with learning lessons the hard way. I had put the cart before the horse. I had needs to meet and was hoping domains would fetch me $3000 within some wks via hand regging. LOL. I lost some money regging not too good names or let me just blame coupon codes. they make newbies reg happy. Now most of my needs are met and I hope to acquire domains with patience. I know to a good extent what makes a good domain and im no longer feel insulted by the low appraisals my domains get. And If there's one story that spurred me, it was stumbling on Abdulbasit's $375,000 symphony sale. I hope to make my first sale and work towards greater success. Hope to be like you guys. Cheers!
