I want to register the domain name www.999guides.com for free for atleast 1 year i kno there are some sites that offer this but they require a credit card for it so does any one know of another way or could any one buy this for me.

Question.
What will the site be used for?
I will be making a forum that has guides on everything from every day lives to computer lives eg. gaming guides, garden guides, parenting guides, money guides, buissness guides, programming guides. there would also be a market section to buy and sell guides.

You have a few posts now about registering a free domain. First of all I am not aware of any way to get a free domain unless it is thrown in with a hosting account (like LunarPages.com).

Second a domain is like $7/year. If you don't have $7 how do you plan on paying for things like hosting fees for the project you want to launch?

A free hosting service does not offer everything that other pay web hosting services does including CGI and other stuffs.

A .com domain costs the host/registrar at least $7.50 (unless they're massive and get a discount close to Verisign prices)

Hence it'd be impossible to simply get $7.50 for $0.00 - there must be a catch. Have you read the terms and conditions? What is the catch? Perhaps they make you renew for 1 or 2 years further, and charge (say) $15/year to renew?

the catch is on those sites that u need to own a buissness lol but people sign up any way even if they dont and u can only do it once

I guess he is talking about register.com that is providing a free domain name for 1 year. And certainly they need a credit card to deal with this offer. Well, I wonder even if you provide them a credit card and register a domain name for 1 year (free), you got to stick with them for renewal and I am sure you can not transfer your domain name.
As far as credit card is concern, you may try to buy the domain name at name.com. They do not need a credit card. In fact you can even buy a domain from your unverified paypal account in real time/
