In the midst of the housing mortgage crisis gripping the US, a Chicago woman has won an online bid to acquire a home in Michigan for just 1.75 dollars. When I sell my next one-word generic .TV domain for $5.00, I can take solice in knowing that houses have sold for less.

She did have to pay over $800 in back taxes and yard cleaning assessments. The photo I saw makes it look like a dump, but the land has to be worth something.

Ah, but with the publicity there will be no more house bargains on eBay for a while.

when you take it apart and sell it for scraps, she'll be able to recoup her money back. but it's ok, now we'll have the government buying these homes for $1.75. Usa! Usa!

This is likely an attempt at a short sale - the bank/lender would have to approve the transaction, in any case.

do you really think she needs to go through a bank or lender to buy a house for $1.75??
id assume that you wouldn't finance a house at that price
+closing cost.. well
just the paper used for the loan would cost more than the house..

I kind of feel bad for the buyer. Who puts a house on sale with no reserve?
Probably it is just a PR move...
