I am well aware that many of you do this as a career, and as such, you must flip asap. However, it is sad to see great names go for so cheap. To be honest, with the exception of the few getting good money, most (if not all) are being sold (especially one word dictionary names) At this point, it can be
.anything, if it is a one word dictionary. It will be more than what you paid. Even the .ws one worders are sold out. An investment, inheritantly means to hold until and while it matures. May of you will be kicking yourself. And you can't afford to keep it, see if you can find someone to split the cost with you!

P.S.- Wait till you see the revolutionary parking that comes out for .TV names
(We are talking actual video commercials here!!)

My response

1.) This an open forum, where we are free openly to express as we wish and that is what is great about forums. So I thank you all for your feedback whether it be negative or positive.

2.) I think many of you misinterpreted my posting, as evidence by your comments. I did not mean to insult anyone, at any level, whether you do this for a living, as a hobby, or whatever. Whatever your socioeconomic background is or situation, I was merely stating an opion, that I believe that many one word .TV's will be worth more in the future than they are now. How much more, I don't know. I am just saying worth more.

3.) As far as my background, now more than ever I am hessitant to disclose that. When I first posted comments I received constructive feedback here, and I have really gained alot. However, I am starting to think otherwise. I truly value everyone's insight (good or bad), but this went further than the insight I look for.

4.) The funny thing is everyone knows I am new member and SUPPORTER of .TV (you would think I am an opponent). You are all hanging on my every word, and bulldog I was not trying to give anyone a false sense of hope here.

I love .TV, I am excited about its' potential. IMO- that is all it is, an opinion.
We are in a speculative business and speculating is what we do, period.

I interpreted it as a positive outlook for .tv, nothing more or less.

I wouldn't stress over it... people are sometimes negative and like to complain. We all do it at times. No big deal.

I started buying .tv names in 2000 and hold some of the best names in the industry. In my opinion .tv makes sense for certain names and not for others. For example, Actor.tv which I own makes sense and something like pencils.tv which I don't own does not make sense. My opinion is the high profile sales are good for .tv such as Golf.tv which sold for $600,000 but other sales in the .tv does not make sense. I lost my "ass" on investing in .ws, .info, .biz, .cc. etc.
Look at the trends that are staring us right in the face. All the major networks are starting to use .tv and advertise .tv now.

A very accurate, and true statement. Don't register a .tv just because it was available. It should tie into tv, video, music, entertainment, etc. IMHO.

Don't worry dude, if anyone got insulted by your post, they have the problem not you. I just read it as some guy, enthusiastic about TV, offering an opinion. I didn't read into it anything about 'false sense of hope'. I am just baffled that someone could give your post that interpretation.

The social skills of domainers never ceases to amaze me.

Patience pays Dividends -- Warren Buffett

If everyone bought and held without any intention of developing, the extension would not grow as quickly in my opinon. That doesn't mean it is bad advice. Truth be told, I think it is great advice, but if someone can buy and flip to make even more money then all the power to them.

From a time invested vs. amount returned perspective, this does not work well for me with the risk factor. You have to recognize the insight and strategy and appreciate the liquidity they provide the .tv market. IMHO of course.

Selling or holding: I have done both actually. At my peak I owned 50 domains. I have now sold 30 at a nice profit. But I still have 20 of the best left which I think I will hold onto. These I hope will be valuable. They are good names but haven't attracted the large bids I was hoping for.

Hopefully, in time...

Ok i'll be brave and dive into the Hold v Flip debate :hehe:

My intentions with my .tv domains have been to hold for a minium of 3 years until the extension is better known and used much more frequently. I have always dismissed any offers for my domains as i felt i would be selling them short

BUT

Now i am getting tempted to sell the odd domain IF I GET THE RIGHT OFFER. Before i would of said any offer wasn't right as my domain will be worth more in a few year but now i am thinking of selling the odd .tv and using the funds to buy 2,3 other quality .tv's as there is still many bargains around in the aftermarket.

The reasons my view has changed slightly is that i've started to get some decent offfers for a couple of .tv's i own ($xx,xxx+ offers for a Geo in particular) Previously i would never of considered selling as i dont need the money but now i think it is getting close to the time i should cash in and re-invest the money by buying 2,3 good .tv's for the price of the one Geo.

So i guess my strategy has changed from "Definetley do not sell for 3 years +" to "Sell at the right price & invest the money in other .tv's that are priced at better value"

It is too simple to say everyone who sells now is making a mistake as its all a question of personal circumstances and also if you could make more money by investing in other areas. :imho:

I better get to my bed now (well after the Sopranos repeat)

Best of Luck all no matter how you try to play the .tv game,

Ronnie

When Godaddy dropped prices to $12.95, I basically went nuts and started buying .TVs with abandon. A few days later, I thought it had been a mistake.

Then the offers started rolling in from the UK. It seems that the Brits are a few years ahead of the US and understand the value of .TV! I bought 500 .TV domains and it appears that I will be able to pay for the registrations with 6 pending sales.

Good luck to all .TV domainers!

Greg.

That's quite amazing, especially as it's in such a short time.
These 6 sales are around $1,000 average each then :hehe:
Congrats :)

Congrats mate!

I never bought (and *** will never invest in ***) any of the so called "premium" names, and already made a low x,xxx within 2 months with my .tv investments. All my names are non-premium. It is not my intention to discourage our fellow NP friends, those who are buying premium names.

Premium names will have a huge market value, but we have to hold them for 2 or 3 years, which will be a headache for most of the average domain investors, again imho.

.TV is looking great for all .TV domainers. All the best! :)

Congrats Greg on your pending sales, it is excellent that you can recoup your outlay in such a short time.

Can you give any info about the pending sales or is it still to early?

Can i also ask why you feel the Uk is ahead of the game regards to .tv, do you simply say that as most of your offers have been from UK based buyers or is there more reasons?

Its not that i disagree about the UK's acceptance of .tv, i was just wondering what you meant and what your experiences have been.

Good Luck, keep up the great work

Ronnie:

I've been working in the Internet/Computer field for over 20 years. However, I'm new to the .TV business, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

It appears to me that many (perhaps most) of the best .TV sites (PUBLIC.TV for Example) and those with huge .TV potential (RATHERGOOD TV which is currently hosted on a .UK domain and my favorite television site) are all based in the UK.

In addition, the biggest offers coming in are from the UK. Last week, I was offered $900.00 for a .TV domain from a Leeds based company. I have not received any offers over a couple hundred dollars from US buyers.

I'm hoping that the US will follow in 4 or 5 years as most of my names lend themselves to a US Audience. My website below is less than 2 weeks old yet during that time I have learned much and continue to learn everyday.

My goal is to develop 10 sites that generate enough revenue to pay the renewals on my 550 .TV names. I've got 11 months to accomplish this task.

Wish me luck, I'll need it!

Sincerely,
Greg.
