I saw today that .hk opened up their registration, and many premium domain names look like they are still available. Is there a reason for this? Why wouldn't they be snapped up?
They speak English in hong Kong, and a lot of business is done there, so I thought it would be higher demand?
any ideas?

Doesn't Hong Kong already have it's own country code extentions? Does it look like this extention will be successful?

asiaregistry.com has them for $69/year, that's expensive! Never heard about them before either

That is about $32 / Y

And when I visit its statistic page at https://www.hkdnr.hk/aboutHK/statistics.jsp?path=dispute_resolution&item=0, it shows that the registration of .hk was started from May 1st, 2004 already. All top generics names have gone.

On it is homepage, the anouncement is "Starting from January 30, 2007 (noon), all successful new domain applications can be activated in 1 hour. " So my understanding is that their service is better from today (You would get your domian in 1 hour. Maybe you should waiting for 24 hours in the past, who knows? :( ). However, it is not a new Launch ccTLD today

It is the sunrise for .hk IDN , effective 12 am Monday 28th January until 9th February.

Registrations are limited to .hk only without documentation and if you do get the name you do not pay.

It is approx $32 for a registration for one year. If you already owned the ascii version you were able to secure the IDN version accordingly I now own :

Vacations.hk & ๅ‡ๆœŸ.HK ( A premium IDN name)

???

I thought .HK has opened to public for a long time, and I have seen several sales of .HK.

Like Green.HK?

Something wrong here? OR you mean the open of IDN .HK???
