High value names won at snapnames, what if not delivered?

I recently won two very high value names at snapnames (xx,xxx). They have not yet been delivered to me. snapnames is checking with enom on why, but snapnames seems concerned. The whois contact info has changed from the previous owner's name to a privacy service, yet the domain still shows as expired. So, I'm concerned too. I want the names. I have plans for them and feel I got them at a very good price.

Has there ever been cases where a winner of a snapnames auction has paid and the names are not delivered?

If so, what could cause this? The name is dropped, but would enom bend to the threats of a previous owner finding out after the drop that he's missed his chance to renew? Are there ever shenanigans at enom (or snapnames I guess) where they are contacted by someone wishing to pay more and then they are sold for a higher value and put under privacy?

If I don't get the names, and get my money back (which I'm not worried about), what recourse do I have? Especially if I cannot see who the new owner is due to privacy? It would seem that I will have been ripped off by some party however this may have played out. I don't mind paying legal fees for these prime names.

(Both names were previously owned by the same person)

BTW, I'm not making any accusations here; just thinking this through.

Honestly lots of funny stuff in happening behind the scenes IMHO at various companies. One example would be Tucows admitting they were keeping some of the better names, not letting them drop.

Do you have a screen shot of the last WHOIS showing PENDING DELETE? That might make some people wise up quickly.

Sometimes this shows if the domain is locked. Beyond that, it seems the registrars can do just about whatever they want...at least until they are held accountable for their misdeeds. Plus, just about every TOS I've read absolves them from any liability and responsibility for practically everything. If things don't shake out in a day or two, it's time to call Dr. Berryhill and force the issue.

Hmmm, Interesting.

I won two LLL.net names and one LLL.com name in the auction, but still they are not interested to deliver the names!

I mailed them a few times but no response! :(

Who is Dr. Berryhill?

Slobizman,

I believe you are reffering to .info's.... both uber premium keywords. Nice purchases BTW, you outbid me. Anyhow, there was some debate prior to the auction if these domains would actually drop/transfer to a new owner. I wont post the link as you seem to not want to share the actual name.

Yofie on this forum actually called up Enom to check the status of the domain, and confirm via Snap and Enom that it was infact good to transfer.... I had a feeling they may have just told him that without really looking. Im curious to know what happens in this case. Good luck!

Thanks. I'll let you know what happens. But I'm still waiting on snapnames to get back to me today. They did yesterday and were "working on it." No reply yet today to this morning's email from me.

..yea, I was in an auction a few weeks ago for one a few weeks ago dropping through DirectI.

Called Snapnames... called DirectI.. both said things were good. The auction was ultimately pulled about 3 hours before finishing. Good times!

Yea.. my case wasn't nearly as bad. Still, its amazing they could run the auction for 2 days and 21 hours before realizing.. "Hey. we weren't supposed to run that name through auction..."

There have been a ton of these phantom .info auctions recently at Snapnames.. you'd think they'd be more on top of things there. I mean, it's not like they bought the company for tens of millions of dollars recently or anything... :)

Just my opinion, but it looks to me like steps may be in motion to make .info the new .mobi and auction the best names on the open market using the "oops.. yea.. we messed up the first time" excuse to get a nice windfall.

That leaves me wondering if that is the case : what if a person paid a previous .info holder $xx,xxx for a name and now its being contested? What about names that were renewed past 2006.. could they ultimately see the same fate as the ones expiring now?

Stay tuned... this could get interesting...

Hey, also with snapnames, can someone explain something here that someone pointed out to me in a PM about the auction for Government.info I was in? Notice there is no "bum" in the initial bidding. I had the second highest bid. Then Piety took over and won. But, then his payment failed. THEN, instead of awarding me the name, this guy "bum" shows up and takes the name. What the hell? Can someone explain this to me before I contact snapnames and ask them about it?

----- I hope this is not automerged with my last post:

It turns out that those two top bidders are partners, and they requested the substitution of accounts before the auction ended. meaning they wanted the different registration in the account details.

Lot of NP'ers in on this one - surprising that Snap let the switch happen, but this is one that might be a "no harm no foul", no?
