My Opinion:

To know the Trending, Go through NP forums as well as check daily sales report. You will get an Idea.

To know the value of your domains, just compare it with related domains which sold previously( DNJournal, NameBio,...). But don't expect same or higher, It may depends on the quality of the domain name.

You can invest on LLLL.com's and Generic Single Word Domains.
