Hi, I just reformatted my computer since it was going unbelievably slow. It has just finished reformatting and it is still going really slow! I tried downloading something and it was downloading at less than 1kb per second. :( Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thanks.

your computer goes slow or downloading goes slow ? if downloading goes slow its your ISP , if your computer goes slow do the following things:

press crtl + alt + del and you will see the services running, see which service is using allot of cpu power.

mostly its a antivirus or such.

Also if you have a cable or DSL modem, make sure it's properly configured. dslreports.com is a good place to do tests and got DrTCP that helps. Does sound like a virus, although after a format (unless it's hidden in the MBR), it should clear.

My ISP is SBC Yahoo! DSL. I've ran my anti-virus programs and anti-spy and found nothing. Downloading and the computer is going slow. It usually goes much faster. I don't know what to do. :(

Do what xlusive mentioned...

When you are at Windows Task Manager, you need to go to "Processes" Tab to see which services are currently running.

IEXPLORE.EXE is using the most. is it under the tab that says CPU or where it says MEM Usage? If it is MEM usage it is what I just said if it is CPU it is System Idle Process.

Hey

When you formatted your PC, you may have doubled up on some of your programmes.

Click Control, Alt and Delete at the same time and go into processing icon in task manager to find out what applications are running.

Internet connection

If its just your downloads/ointernet that is slow, maybe its ure connection. Do you have broadband or dial-up?

just a little story however irrelevant:
a couple of months back, I was disgusted with my computers absurdly slow speed. I complained to my dad about it, but we didn't manage to find a solution. Then one day, I realised that I had been connecting to my neighbour's wireless connection instead of my own families one. Ever since then, my speed has drastically quicken.

Okay, that's the end of my out of point story.
