My friend tried to transfer a domain to another person he sold it to, but domainsnext.com never approved it. He sent in emails but they never responded. Now he needs to transfer a domain to me, but of course domainsnext.com is pulling the same thing. I just found the thread about a scam like this being pulled. What should I tell my friend to do? He has reported this to the BBB and ICANN but nothing seems to be happening.

You can go to ICANN's website and file a complaint agains DomainsNext. We (www.HostingDude.com) recently had to file a complaint against Moniker to get them to release a name. The little nickel-and-dime registrars that have been spawned by the big bucks they can make grabbing expired names and splitting the commissions with Pool.com are frequently complete horses-bottoms about releasing a domain name.

We found that just by filing our complaint we got action the next day from the registrar who wouldn't contact us or release our domain name. Hope this helps.

Hello BondGamer,

Were you able to get your name out of the ItsYourDomain reseller DomainsNext yet? ItsYourDomain is the very worst at releasing names as they make you notarize a form for each domain.

They do not follow ICANN policy however, ICANN cannot make a registrar transfer your domain away. There is a policy in place to assist with this and the gaining registrar needs to send a direct request to the losing registrar to make this happen.

Hostingdude, the problem with your name was that you did not follow our/Moniker.com's transfer out policy. Our security measures prevent unauthorized transfer out requests and all we require is an email from the admin email on file to release the domain name so that you receive a message from the system. This was explained to you and you finally did send this message so your name was released....ICANN had nothing to do with it. This policy places Moniker.com as the only registrar to not have lost a domain to theft.

BTW, we are one of the top 3 fastest growing registrars in the industry, managing more than 550K domains, obviously not the "nickel and dime" registrars you reference above. Although we are a Pool expired name partner, which helps our customers acquire names that they desire, it is a very small part of our business.

Take Care.
