Hi,
I have always been interested in the world of internet domains but never really made the effort to learn about this business. I had a project for a website back in 2008 with the domain wdyo.com and after the project failed for several reasons I was even dumb enough to let the domain expire.
However, last year I registered a domain with the word "puzzle" in it and started a blog about puzzles, mostly just for fun, which I eventually abandoned as my work and family obligations didn't leave me much spare time, and a month ago I received an email from Godaddy saying there was someone interested in buying my domain for $600. As I didn't think I would make any more use of it I accepted the offer and started researching a bit more about the value certain domains can have. I found that people are still paying nice sums of money for valuable domains and decided I would reinvest these unexpected profits in a bunch of new domains.
I first just looked randomly for some domain names with certain words in them and registered a few without much further research but now I'm slowly trying to build up a deeper understanding of this business. I am reading Smurge's guides which are a real eye openers and while I get more acquainted with everything I have parked my domains at Bodis.
I also paid for a membership at Godaddy Auctions and I'm trying to sell some of my new domains for a quick buck but without any success just yet. I now realize nobody is going to pay anything for a newly registered domain.
Thinking ahead for the 2018 World Cup in Russia I registered the domains 2018russiatickets.com and entradasrusia2018.com (the same in Spanish). Do you think they will increase in value as the date approaches? Is it worth investing a bit of time/money in actually developing a basic landing site with some links/Adsense?
Cheers
