According to this Dutch article the domain name Hell.com is up for sale. The owner has put it up for auction. The asking price is one million USD.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

eclipse 'hell' which is basically a novelty name. I can see it selling for around $200,000.

Cars.com
Move.com
Luck.com

Uh, I could go on for a long time on this...

Hell.com is worth 100k +/- .... Not surprised it did not sell.

I think Josh and I have covered the only real usage for the domain... A heavy metal record label or some church site... I cant really imagine it being used for anything else. I know there are a few towns named Hell, but I think they're small towns, so they probably wouldn't have the money to buy it.

Do they have the Internet in Hell?

How about a site encompassing all-things-sinful (e.g. sex and gambling)?

Strong brand, memorable name; I wouldn't have been too surprised to see it go for a million.

Its worth the money due to many factors, particularly marketability and ease of recall. The fact its not specific to anything (unlike NEWS, JOBS or GOLF) can actually work in its favor as any company could use it for anything!

But most of all, it works perfectly in getting visitors to a website by matching one of the best ever sayings:

Looking for XXXXXXX ?

Go to Hell !

You could 'go to hell' for anything. It could, with promotion, become a superb online marketplace.

'hey, where did you get that Zune Player?'
'Oh, I went to Hell'

It would be prefect for some great 'go to Hell' TV commercials...

:)

maybe 30k+ to an end-user, but only and idiot would pay 1 million.

For something to be marketable, it has to appeal to a general audience. Unless you're targeting a niche market, but an online marketplace with TV ads, probably isn't... So.. whats the marketability of Hell to a general audience? Not much... It holds such a negative connotation and the world is overcrowded with religious people...
"hey, where did you get that lovely dress?"
"Oh, I went to Hell"

Just doesnt have the same appeal when that conversation takes place in church :)

The 'go to hell' thing would work great... except people could easily think it's "gotohell.com' instead of go to "hell.com".... but yeah, great domain.

It was just an example. :)

One would need to have some imagination with this one. You wouldnt just use it to sell plastic red spears and fake horns to party-goers.

At the end of the day, it completely unforgetable and I believe any site based on it would be 'attractive' to the 16-40 age group in particular.
Other such names like devil and diablo are actually used as global products.
The association can be used positively.

A million though.. maybe.

Unfortunately, I am $999,000 short..... :(
