hey everyone I’m the newbie! :wtf:

So over 14 years ago I started buying up some names. I’m at a point to start letting some go.

But I own an old four letter .com domain, and I noticed now that there is actually an FM radio station with those call letters and it is NPR or public radio - something like that. However I bought it before that station existed.

So my question is......I want to sell it soon. Am I going to get into trouble or something or can they come along and say - public radio, yea that’s our domain you can’t sell it. Or is it all good and maybe approach them to see if they want to buy?

    Thanks

Well, for one thing it's not their domain, it's yours. Just because it happens to match their call letters doesn't assure them entitlement over it. As long as the current landing page/website you use on the domain isn't encroaching on anything radio related, I don't see why you should get into trouble. But reaching out to a company where you have an exact match on their name with your domain could always go sideways, so just keep that in mind if you decide to approach them. Do so politely and professionally, letting them know they are not the only prospective buyers you are reaching out to.

A four-letter .com may easily match an acronym or call sign for any number of companies, not just the radio station. But radio stations in general are struggling right now, many strapped for cash because of declining audiences, so I wouldn't limit prospects to just a radio station. If it's a pronounceable LLLL rather than random letters I think you can broaden your search for a buyer.

Ok I’m glad I joined the forum. See.....You kind of eluded to what was at the back of my mind - maybe not contact them. And just not worry about it.

And you did bring up another good point that it could match other companies. It’s nothing pronounceable, or great, only random letters.

But I figured that since I haven’t been doing the domain selling for sooooooooo long, I will get my feet wet again using this one since it is random - before I get into the others.

    Thanks so much!
