The company I work for would love the lll.com that matches their name acronym but it was already taken back in 1993. They settled for a longer one (lllllll.com) that was fine but has lost relevance recently. It used to bring business but not any more. The company full name is too long. All reasonable abbreviations are taken in .com, .net, and .us (the words in the name are also quite common).

They bought the lll.co and are using it but it is a lower grade substitute.

I doubt the current holder of the lll.com would be willing to sell it for a price the our company could afford to pay ;)

yes its true. Many more business owners every time think to change their domain name. They don't want to live with that.

It could cost your company a lot of lost traffic. If you don't understand why, look at the case of Overstock and their branding campaign for O.co. Now they're back to using overstock.com.

When you use the term "Small Business Owners", it means they don't have boatloads of money to pay Domainers who are asking for boatloads of money.

So the aftermarket choices for domains to use, is probably around the less than $1,000 USD bracket. I tried searching Andrew Reberry's prison cells, i can probably pay bail money of a couple of hundred bucks to free some of the decent names he is holding hostage.

So i think it would be pretty reasonable for small-timers to invest that kind of money for a decent domain they can live with. It can be charged as business expense you can pay-off after a few months or years. What's $500 US dollars anyway.

But if you are trying to look for REG FEE domains, the only option is to go "brandable". A few hours of silent imagination can probably result to a brandable name that has not yet been regged by somebody.

In that article you could replace 'domain name' with 'sex'.
