The Story

I couldn't even believe this when I read through it. They also tackled the kid who was capturing it on his phone, and are trying to invent charges against them to cover up for their own power-drunk behavior. I'm sure a lot of you have already heard of this, but I was in shock and awe. There needs to be a SERIOUS correction for this...

That is truly disturbing, I hope her mother sues them, and gets every penny that young lady deserves.

The video is not conclusive. There is no clear view of her wrist being broken and as of yet, the extent of her injuries have not been released to the media.

Where is the first part of the video leading up to the girl being restrained? Did she attack the security officer or a school official? Did she curse him or use racist language?

There has been no statement by the guard or the school. Was the injury intentional or was it a result of a struggle? Is the injury as serious as the family is making it out to be? Did the guy shooting the video (or his sister, who was also arrested) assault anyone?

The mother, the daughter/victim, the "videographer" AND his sister were all arrested. The daughter was temporarily expelled. The mother was arrested for assault on an assistant principal and was later fired by her school district. There is obviously more to this story than is currently being reported.

All I'm saying is everyone is making a judgement call based on the point of view of the family and a choppy-ass video. I did not see a girl being beaten or even manhandled. I saw a girl face down on a table with an officer holding her hands behind her back. I saw a teacher or administrator allowing the girl to be restrained.

I'd like to see a medical doctor explaining the fracture and how it occurred. I'd like to see the school's principal explaining what happened with the mother. I'd like to see the guard making a statement. I'd like to hear from the other students/security/teachers/etc who were on the scene when the incident occurred. I'd like to confirm with my own ears that the guard indeed said "nappy-head" on the video. I don't see this as a black or white issue but (you can bet your life) many people will because of that one detail.

Of course I believe that officers should use restraint when dealing with minors. I also don't support breaking the wrists of unarmed teenage girls... but, until this story gets fleshed-out a little, I for one won't be taking sides.

Are you sure you are right about that? Where did you get this information?

From your inquisitive post full of arguments it sounds like you are siding with a bunch of lunatics who physically punished a small girl for not picking up every little cakecrumb. Of course the video was choppy, it was shot from a cell phone of another student who was tackled shortly after shooting it.

I don't want to come of as bias when posting a story, but I am gonna support the general public and teenage students over security officer bigots...

I feel sad for the girl. I hope she is not traumatized by the event.

It happened in a school for crying out loud. Surely this could have been solved without violence? What's up with using racist terms? That was uncalled for.

i can not tell if it is all the guards fault, i actually believe it is both, but i believe those big apes has overdone themself after all the victim is just a child. i am only judging this by the picture due i was not able to see the video from the link instead my firewall was busy blocking some spywares trying to get into my computer.

Why exactly do you think I am choosing sides? There has been absolutely no evidence presented by the media that the family's version of the story is the real one. It very well may be the most accurate version of the truth, but if you listen closely to the way reporters are sensationalizing the details, you will see that they don't care whether it's the truth or not. You don't know the girl, you don't know her family, you don't know the officer and you weren't there. Don't pretend that you know what happened.

LOL! You are 100% biased. You (and unfortunately most others on this thread) are accepting the media's regurgitated version of the girl's story as absolute truth. You have no proof whatsoever that the officer is a bigot. I've seen police officers reasonably restrain people with my own eyes and this video looks no different to me. Although the video and the girls sling don't prove a thing, he may indeed have fractured her wrist. He may have used a racial slur. I don't know that for certain and neither do you. I won't let the media manipulate my emotions. I will wait for statements from the school, the police and other's involved before I hang someone.

Damn, you are freaking cold. I usually take the media with a grain of salt too, but something rotten happened here and if you fail to acknowledge that then I feel sorry for you.

If I'm cold, then you are blind. I try to think logically and rationally and that keeps me from buying into hype until all the facts are in.

Here's a news report you might not have seen yet...

-- For the first time, a security guard at a Palmdale High School is responding to allegations he roughed up a student during a campus scuffle. The incident was caught on cell phone camera.

On the heels of the videotaped conflict at Pete Knight High School in Palmdale several weeks ago, there has been a student and parent protest in front of the school.

Pete Knight High School student Pleajhia Mervin maintains that security guard Chris Niemeyer violently detained her and broke her wrist when she failed to clean up the mess from a fallen birthday cake during a lunch hour party for a friend at the school. Mervin claims Niemeyer referred to her as "nappy head."

Niemeyer denies making that comment.

In a statement to Eyewitness News, Niemeyer speaks out for the first time since the incident. He says, "I'm not racist and never have been. The issue that occurred at Pete Knight High School has nothing to do with race. I don't see color, I see people."

In an exclusive interview soon after the incident Pleajhia Mervin told Eyewitness News she was simply on her way to class when Niemeyer suddenly grabbed her, twisting her arms behind her back and fracturing her wrist.

Niemeyer says he only used measured force after Mervin threw the cake at his feet and got in his face screaming obscenities.

In his statement, he goes on to say: "Accusations that were made regarding myself are false. I thought I handled the situation professionally and I don't second-guess my actions."

The student who videotaped the incident was detained that day along with his sister who rushed to his aid. All three students have been expelled from school.

Niemeyer is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

Niemeyer concludes by saying "during the incident I remained calm, never jumped out of my character. Our job as security officers is the safety and security of all students and staff on the high school campuses in the Antelope Valley. Security staff at Pete Knight High School has done an excellent job at making the campus safe and will continue to do so in the future.

School officials are continuing to investigate the incident but they are not talking publicly.

Why don't we just keep quiet until all the facts are in?

Well, well, well... lookee here!

Security guard cleared in Knight High School fracas
Deputies: 3 kids, mother were out of line; officer wasn't (link1) (link2)

PALMDALE - The Knight High School security guard involved in a racially charged fracas with students over spilled birthday cake did not use excessive force, investigators said Friday.

Two of the students arrested after the Sept. 18 lunchtime incident claimed their wrists were fractured, but deputies said Friday that the girls at no time indicated they had been injured.

"We have determined there was no criminal behavior by the security guard," said Capt. Carl Deeley, commander of the Lancaster station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "In fact, we believe he showed great patience and used the minimal amount of force necessary in that case."

The students said security guard Chris Niemeyer twisted the arm of Pleajhai Mervin, 16, behind her back and slammed her against a lunch table, fracturing her wrist.

Mervin and her mother, Latrisha Majors, were arrested, along with Joshua Lockett, 14, who videotaped the fight, and his sister, Kenngela Lockett, 16, who also suffered a fractured wrist, said protest organizers, who maintain that the incident is an example of racism.

KABC (Channel 7) reported earlier this week that the emergency room doctor who treated Mervin said the girl was not injured, but that claim was disputed Friday by her mother and by Najee Ali, the Los Angeles-based civil-rights activist who has organized protests in support of the four.

"That's false, and I have no further comments," Majors said.

BULLSHIT ALERT!
Ali said there is a medical report that indicates that Mervin suffered a wrist fracture. "The bigger question is not so much whether her wrist was broken or sprained. The fact is, she was assaulted by a security guard, and she definitely has emotional trauma, and she suffered pain that no one can dispute," Ali said.

The physician did not respond to requests for comment.

Deeley said the incident began when Mervin dropped a large cake and was told two dozen times by Niemeyer to pick it up.

Mervin responded by swearing at him, jabbing her finger into Niemeyer's face, and pushing him, Deputy Steve Owen said.

"She's drawing a crowd of students and it's starting to get out of control," Deeley said. "He turned her around and put her in a wristlock, holding her hands behind her back."

Joshua Lockett had a video camera, which is not allowed on campus, Deeley said. He failed to follow orders to turn it over and was trying to incite the crowd.

While Niemeyer had him down on the ground to handcuff him, Lockett's sister came over and smacked Niemeyer in the back of the head, Deeley said.

Majors pushed the principal, gave a running forearm shove to a vice principal and pushed another security guard, Deeley said.

Mervin wrote a statement about the incident, using her injured hand, and Kenngela Lockett used both her hands to rest on a chair after the incident. All three students have had disciplinary problems at school, Deeley said.

"The unfortunate part is the security guard has been getting trashed," he said. "They are calling him a racist and trying to ruin his reputation."

In another development, Palmdale city officials said Friday that they plan to send a letter next week criticizing Ali and other activists for their involvement in the case.

THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH IS AWESOME! City spokeswoman Barbara Vilardo said the letter will be sent next week to Ali, the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Charles Steele, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, who took part in a protest outside the Antelope Valley Courthouse on Thursday. "We do not appreciate your inserting yourself into our community to `solve' our problems when you do not have a full understanding of our community and the relationships and partnerships we have formed over the years," the letter said.

At the march Thursday, Ali said there is a larger rally planned for the courthouse Nov. 19, the date Majors is scheduled to appear in court, and that Sharpton is set to attend.

Meanwhile, protesters have demanded that all charges be dropped against the four.

Officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said the cases against Majors, Mervin and Kenngela Lockett are still being reviewed and that no charges have been filed.

LOL! Joshua Lockett is scheduled to appear in Lancaster Juvenile Court in November on charges connected with the Knight High incident and an unrelated petty theft and burglary case, officials said.

Well, 2 out of 13 posters on this thread saw through the media's spin on this one. Not a very good percentage.

Nothing to see here... just an imprudently violent mother and a bunch of juvenile thug wannabes who aren't afraid to throw down the race card if it helps them get more media coverage... and thus, a bigger bag of cash.
