This is my first question on here. Hello. Has anyone ever had a name listed on GreatDomains.com, and has anyone actually ever sold a domain name on there? I have a few names listed there now,and am just wondering if I will actually ever sell one??
Any comments, expierences with them, or actual sale would be greatly appreciated. I recently sold my first 2 domains over $100. These were CorrectionalSupply.com for $200.00 on Afternic, and eAdvances.com on Sedo, for $150.00. After registration fees, and the registrar's cut, I made a whole $275.00!!! Of course, I am still in the hole!! Thanks

Hi
I'm in the same boat as you. I've had a couple of names listed at GD for a couple of months, and have no idea if they will sell or what the success rate is. They have a formula for selecting what they will list that is fairly stringent, so a name that gets on board there has got to be fairly good, but until it sells, it is only negetive income for the amt it was purchased for. Wish I had more I could tell you.

Thanks

Thanks. I have 18 domains listed with them now. But, as you say, doesn't mean a thing until one is sold. Maybe we will get more replies, and info on here.

Their Domains are far from great, but I listed mine. Who Knows?

I have a few listed there as well, but I'm not holding my breath for them to sell. GD tends to play at the high end and primarily sell to end users. So if you happen to have a domain that someone/corpoartion really needs, then you might have a chance at a decent sale. Otherwise, if its action you're after, you'll have to play in other playgrounds.

GD targets end users so if you make a sale there, it wont be a small one. Got a couple listed there myself.

would you rather list your domain on sedo or greatdomains?

Good question. If all I had was 100 names and all 100 could be listed a GD, I would list all of my traffic names at Sedo and the rest at GD. After 6mos, I'd reevaluate. My practice now is to contact them, from time to time, w/ a name that I think might fit their criteria and if they like it, list it w/ them. GD fills a particular niche, and w/ a diverse portfolio, I think it is good to customize where and how names are lisited, as much as possible. :)

Right, I would list all of my domains on Sedo and whatever accepted domain on GD

The downside of the GD is the fax-back of the contract you sign with them.. also, any email you send/reply to them would take around 3-4 days to be processed! and that's really frustrating.

I also noticed one thing, GD does not generate much sales as sedo, but when they do it's really a "Good Deal".

I have a few domains that are better then some they have listed (and I am not being biased) but every time I try and list them they deny my request. I've about had it with them. Bitter? sure, they are not consistent with their listings and criteria and I live in a very black and white world.

www.GreatDomains.com is making changes. As we know, they are now excepting 2 word domain names. I am not sure if I have seen any 3 worders, will have to check.

I also just had a name accepted, a .biz. Listed price is $5,000, minimum is $1,500. So, looks like they dropped the lower end on their domains. Another accepted, a .org, has a minimum of $3,000. Just some fyi.

A two word plural domain site selling one word dictionary domains - Hah!

I chuckle everytime I think about GD selling dictionary word domains when their own name is a two word combo. Hahahahahahhahahhaha. There's a sucker born every minute, but none of them ever die (Cop to P.T. Barnum).

Why is the Fax Back a problem?
I'm asking because I'm about to do just that.

Peace, kp

I mean, waiting for emails and filling forms then faxing back the signed documents.. this process is really frustrating.

no question they are lowering theyre threshold. i guess through business urgency rather than choice. To think back a few years of the names they declined of mine and the ones theyve accepted from me now is laughable..

business rule no.1, set out your stall and dont detract from your original mission. Either that or completely rebrand yourself.

for them to come back to the fold yet still set out to seek their original values is a fundamental error on their part. Why would an end user buy high value mediocre names from them when a perfectly good alternative is available elsewhere??

Nobody can answer this question unless you list your names and the mandatory Overture checks, Google mentions, and common sense are applied. But generally, if you feel a need to post this thread, you probably won't. Buy the lottery tomorrow, I'm sure you will make tons more money.

Me too. I faxed signed agreements for 2 domains and they haven't done anything for a while. I don't think they are very organized.

GD has traditionally been known as a seller of high end, premium domain names. Because they have been one of the top dogs for awhile and seem to exhibit an air of exclusivity, (and in no small part, because they are a Verisign company), they also have been a prime target for bashing.

Regardless of whether or not the criticism is deserved, they are continuing to make several big sales on a regular basis, which is my bottom line. While researching some sales figures from the DN Journal archives, I noticed several sales made by GD in the mid $xx,xxx's and although I didn't add up their figures for the year, my guess is that they are fairly close to a millon dollars in sales, YTD.

As a domainer, I'm glad that there are standard bearers out there that are setting premium prices for top-tier names. I'm willing to bet that, in most instances, the buyers, although paying a premium, are capitalizing on their purchase and making a few bucks, themselves.

Domains.

I have many domains listed with www.GreatDomains.com. More than the fingers on my hands!!! Ha! Sure, once in a while it takes a while to hear back form them, or sometimes I don't get any response. I can imagine they get bombarded with thousands of domain names, which we, the domainers, think are just great!!! ( No pun). I don't know how many times I have registered a name, thinking it was the greatest thing in the world. Then, a month later, I realize that it isn't so great.

Most of the times things run smooth with www.GreatDomains for me. If I haven't gotten a response from them in a few days, after I have listed it, then I figure they aren't interested in it. Most of the time, they will send that kind "rejection" letter.

Of course, I haven't sold one yet, still waiting and hoping!!
