I know this probably isnt the right forum, but it seems us mobi (ers) are the ones most curious.

Two pages long, very interesting comments from both sides including this one..

"We believe that Cisco’s U.S. trademark is tenuous at best,” said Katie Cotton, Apple’s vice president for worldwide communications. “We are the first company to use the iPhone name for a cellphone and we’re confident we will prevail"

IMO, Apple made a blunder. The fact that Apple was in negotiations with Cisco shows the fact that Apple recognized and realized that somebody else has the rights to the name. On top of that, whether the TM is tenuous or not is up to the courts to decide. JMHO.

Cisco is defiantly not going to sell it now lol. Why would they?
Apple probably will end up changing the name. And iPhone will end up being released by Cisco or somebody and making a ton on the free publicity.
