Great Domains

How great is GreatDomains.com? They've just accepted one of my names and turned down a whole slew of others. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

I've had one listed so far. Like Allan said, it's free and good advertising. You'll also see the traffic increase a little.

Now for the other side of the story. I have had at least 24 domains listed with www.GreatDomains.com . I currently have 3 listed.

Now remember, GreatDomains does it all. They pick the names they want to list, they decide the price, and they are supposed to try and sell them, even if not at the top price.

Now, you would think out of 24 domains listed, I could hope to sell 1, maybe 2? How many have I sold? ZERO. Ok, so I didn't sell any. Was it my fault? Maybe I didn't accept any of the offers? But wait, how many offers did I get? ZERO.

I did finally sell one of the domains I listed..... on the Afternic Bazaar for $90!!!

Maybe I just wasn't one of the lucky ones. I am just amazed though ,that I never even got 1 offer, not even for 10% of the listed price. You tell me what was wrong? You might say, well your names were not any good. So why did GreatDomains pick them then? Anybody with any answers or comments please reply.

Well, as I understand it, you usually don't hear anything unless the offer meets the reserve price you agreed to in the contract. So if someone did offer 10%, GD would have shot that offer down themselves.

Capiche, what you say is correct and true. But, wouldn't you think just one of them would have gotten at least the agreed to minimum offer?

Believe, you never know with GreatDomains.com. I have had them reply in 1-2 days. Other times, it would be a week. Sometimes a rejection letter, sometimes nothing, sometimes the good letter you are waiting for! I have had domain names rejected, so I resubmitted them again a month or two later, and have had them accepted. They are so haphazard, you just never know.

My recommedation: If they don't reply, keep resubmitting until they do, one way or the other!!

I have 5 premium names listed there for about 2 years time, at least I got 1 offer which was 50% less than the reserve price. I am wondering why they do not update their homepage, in the past they were used to do it on a weekly basis, it is now three weeks the same page/names....... is Greatdomain getting lost ?

Argos, yes, they are :imho: . Faxed in paperwork on domain (they confirmed when I emailed becuase hadn't shown up yet), three weeks ago. That domain has yet to appear You're also right about home-page. It is supposed to be rotated randomly (they used to have you pay for home-page listing, but now all supposed to be rotated once a week), yet has had same domains on there for several weeks.

On top of this, what they decide to, or not to, list, as many folks here have pointed-out, is almost like flipping a coin sometimes. I've submitted domains that I thought had little chance, just becuase was having no luck elsewhere selling them, and they approve them for listing (even suggesting prices I thought were way high for those domains). Then I'd submit names I was sure would sell ASAP for what price I submitted them for (even thinking they would up the price in their invite, as they are sometimes known for doing), just to have the outright reject the domain

I'm beginning to think that GreatDomains is now just a "side-line" for VeriSign, and that the staff there do the management of GreatDomains by randomness of who has to "handle" it on any given day. Really beginning to think that all the great professionals they used to have, who it has been said were the "top-dogs" (back then), have been replaced by folks who don't exactly have a handle on the domain market :zzz:

Thanks Maximum, there's a great guy there for who I have total respect, do not know what is currently happening but I agree with you about this VeriSign "side-line", it looks like a deserted shopwindow.

well, considering that the minimum a domain gets listed for is $5k, I doubt Paypal would be the ideal Payment method.

I have had only had 1 domain accepted by them...

The reason why domains at GD don't sell very fast or often is because those are domains with high prices normally. This is where the Domainrelevance.com Theory comes into play. The DR Theory won't move forward until the business and consumer world are educated to the fact that owning the keyword domains of their products or services is valuable for two reasons:

1. A keyword domain defines the business product and gives the business an edge over their competition
2. For consumers, if #1 was understood, people could easily find exactly what they're looking for by just typing in the keyword phrase into their browser bar as opposed to "searching" on a search engine and navigating through the mess of results. The owner of the keyword phrase most likely will be the best source of the product and service they are looking for.

Until then, a lot of really great domains will go unsold. I predict that this will change within 24 months.

It's haphazard like others say. I regged a name and it got accepted the first time, It was the .us in my title. That's a new extension, sp, I think they would be willing to accept more as time goes on (new extensions).
Who knows how they work?

Both Dotplanners & capiche are right, I believe. As to the site being developed - It seems to make no diffrence in the world. None of mine accepted were any more than "for sale" signs, and many you see listed on GD now are the same.

For everyone: It is great if a domain is accepted by www.GreatDomains.com . However, this doesn't mean you will sell it on there, for any amount.
You get to see your domain on the internet, it makes you feel good, and it makes you think "this domaining stuff is all right. I am on my way to being a millionaire. Just a few more domains, a few more months!!"

It is more like a lottery, there a a 1000 or so names on there. Some really good, you know why they are on there. But then on the other end, there are some like www.FishingforFood.net, or www.MyBigBras.com (ha!!! sorry, female members!). 1,2 , or 3 may sell. Will it be yours???

Good luck to anyone who does get listed, I hope it sells. For those still trying, just remember, think goofy!!!!! Submit anything. Keep trying, over and over.


Update: Want to own a www.GreatDomains.com domain for $45? I just listed 6 in the NamePros.com Marketplace!! 2 already sold!!

Frank greatdomains is not great for selling. But, more a booster that some one in greatdomains thinks your domain name is worth a lot of money.
