Got Hacked

My forum got hacked cuz i have a lousy IPB 1.3. I am very made right now. Why can't people mind their own business? Anyway. Is there a way to block these hackers without buying anything?

As long as people are smart enough to try and block them , Hackers will be smart enough to get a round it unfortunately

change the forum software, especially the version 1.3 of IPB, there is lot of exploits for old versions of IPBB. I recommend http://www.simplemachines.org.
I think there is no way to block hackers

SMF and IPB are the worst of all.

If you can afford it, go to vB. :tu:
If not, go to PhpBB (Yeh, people find vulnerabilities, but they do in all software...and PhpBB sends patches out straight away.)

Like b.a said, IPB 1.3 is know for its many exploits...and you will never be far from another immature person to come along and exploit it if you carry on using it.

I recommend using SMF (don't really know why Hitch says that it is the worst...) or like Hitch says if you can afford it go for IPB or vB (IPB is far better suited to smaller communities)

I know the amount of exploits for phpbb are blown way out of proportion, and they do release patches quickly however i can't really advise using something that has a complete lack of features compared to other free softwares (SMF, MyBB...) and still has more holes than others.

Thanks everyone. I really want to buy IPB 2.2 but i dont have any money at the moment and it costs a lot for a script... vB is good too. I like those two only.

Phpbb is pretty good.

Also, if you roll your own forum (and take care of obvious things like mysql injection) then many hackers won't want to go through the trouble of figuring out how to hack it.

There is no way, to block hackers, sadly , but a few things that I recommend, are Backing-Up your sites like once a week, or once a month, and get all the latest updates for any kind of board you have, personally, I like MyBB, better than all the rest, it is easier to use, and easier to edit. PHPBB, is in my opinion the second best, and the second most secure with MyBB.

I dont mind getting hacked...it is just the nasty pictures they put. i dont want my friends and family seeing them.

They didn't really mess anything up though....

Yes, just back up your database and files as often as you can and when ever you suspect an IP block it. Of course they use a proxy most of the time but maybe you can slow them down enough where they will just move on...

Well, I got hacked again and a deleted the admin.php file but he somehow still cleared out some of the forums. any idea how he did it?

They probably have a a backdoor script installed, depends how u are hosting....do u have your own server? if yes, get some help, pm me....if not, if u have shared hosting or virtual....it's time to move on to some one more secure...still PM me

No I mean for myBB. Like you can log in to mybb from ur site and the site tells you if you are logged into myBB.
