Google Site Map query

I have read up bit on this and it seems you basically just put in urls into a txt or xml file that you want crawled?

But doesn't a Google bot spider all your pages anyway as long as they are linked on the main page? SO if all my pages are linked on the main page anyway then do I really need Google Site Map as won't any SE bots spidering it go through them anyway?

it is not just a case of inserting links into a text document. The format of the dopcument (xml if i remember correctly) has to be in a very specific format.

Also google sitemaps can help your site get indexed quicker as it generally checks your site on a daily basis. Another advantage of the sitemaps are that pages that may not be linked well in your site for any reason can be input into your sitemap which will enable google to find it easier.
