Typically, what is the number you look for as far as google results when registering or buying a domain name? I gave away a name I was thinking about registering on another chat site not long ago and today I checked the availability and many of the extensions were taken. The domain name was ConstructionNew.com and looking back on it I was an idiot because that is a generic domain name that any construction company would love to have. The google results "construction new" was over 4 million results. Whaddayathink? A whopper of a mistake?

I more interested in how many people are searching for a keyword than how many google results a keyword gets.

You can use the Google AdWords keyword tool to check search numbers:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Another thing to consider is advertising competition. Lots of advertisers typically means a domain is worth more.

I don't think it was a mistake. "Contruction New" is backwards, New Construction would be better in my opinion.

"Construction new" doesn't mean anything. It could just be the typo of "construction news". If you are also interested in development of a domain, you should definitely check the google results, and see how many serious competitors there are for the term. Google Keyword Tool is a must use anyway!
