My .info site is ranked about 2 millions in Alexa, and traffic been going up.

But I found out Google sech on my keywords gone really bad, a month ago I my site can be found on page 10 of the key word, now it dropped to page 18.

it's a "Keyword".info so I am wondering do Goggle favour .com/net/org to .info?

I've heard they do. They place .com/.net/.org and the local ccTLD (.co.uk, .com.au or even .asia and .eu) over .info, .tv, .cc, .ws etc results.

The logic is that .tv, .cc, .ws are different places than the US or wherever, and hence show interest to different people. Com, net and org are "universal". It's a bit dated and doesn't make sense for .info I know (info island?).

Apparently if you follow the steps taken in Google Webmasters you can recalibrate your .info, .tv etc to "act" like a .com - and hence not suffer any drops in searches. I haven't tried this though - shoot me a PM if you do?

Also, I'm not too worried (and developing like crazy .infos and .me) because, as more and more good content moves to these extensions, google would be shooting themselves in the business foot not to rank these sites. And they say it's all about delivering the best content to their users.

IMHO

:D

Google definitely looks down at .info, Matt Cutts mentioned it. A .info domain needs to do more to establish trust that other domain extensions.

I've yet to see a .info with under a year registration do anything of significance in Google SERPs. Registering it for more than a few years might help, but I haven't seen any evidence of that yet. If anyone knows any different, I'd like to know.

I have noticed that it is harder to get your keywords up in the search engines when you have something other than .com than ws for example. However, the competition for keywords that I have for my .com's is lower than that for my .ws's.

I've registered some beautiful .ws dictionary words in the hopes that at some point the Search Engines recognize that the country that owns the extension rather have their .ws known as web site than as Western Samoa which isn't even their name anymore.

I have taken a few .info domains from reg to front page in 3 months, but it seems to be a lot harder recently.

In real there is no difference in TLDs but Yes as .infos had been mostly used due to its cheap prices for spam blogs and all other stuff. Maybe it will be harder to rank them. But I still don't want to say for sure that search engines are doing any partiality with TLD. It is just the matter of proving that your .info site is worth it. Which is in any other TLD cases too.

I don't think Google do any favors to any of those TLDs except if you search in local Google site you might find the ccTLD on top of search result.

Maybe age

Since G seen some many spam .info sites because of the 99 cents reg fees I think that G might have tweaked things in reagrd to domain age for .infos.

There was an incident earlier this year when all .infos disappeared from Google for a couple of days so I would say yes they are penalizing them somewhat.

you can geotarget your .info to the us, uk or wherever, that might fix your problem.

just working it out myself, but when done i'll let you know

On June 1st, I set up a BANS site (build a niche store) on a .info a .us and a .com.

I added a privacy policy, adsense on all 3.
I added google analytics on the .info and the .us.
I added no extra content.
I put the .com in a subdirectory.

.info was de-indexed, .us and .com are still indexed.

Even the default root directory page is indexed for the .com, even though there is no conent there (its all in a subdirectory.) The title of the page is Index of / and its still indexed.

For those that don't know, there have been reports of default BANS installs being deindexed from Google, so all 3 of these domains should be considered as having a high risk of being de-indexed.

out of interest, how many people can name .info (or .tv or .me) site that is at #1 place for a decently searched term? i rarely see it...it would be good to make a list...

nice detective work again.

;)

if anyone had alexa know how, i'm sure there's a way to spot the top .infos - and guess, check which keywords they rank for..?

i guess the question after that would be - what's the .info with the lowest stats - that ranks well for a keyword? something like the level we're going to be able to reasonably produce...
