GoDaddyGoDaddy
I guess GoDaddy is really going to need that ad now looks like, to compete with Gogole who's already got the name. Of course it will depend on what Google actually charges. Should be interesting...

Register Fly, Yahoo, and Google now are all top competition for Go Daddy now.

Wow, the prices will certainly be interesting, maybe a large corp like Google can afford to sell .com's for .99? (Wishful thinking)

I hope their domains will be $5 USD or cheaper and most of all i hope they will accept PayPal :D

There's always pros and cons to things like that. I prefer a more focused company. Btw, happy birthday unbreakablemouse. You're 14yrs old today! hehehe..

From what I see, google is always looking for new outlet for their ads. They create GMail so they can show ads on GMail users. They aqcuire Blogger so they can put ads on Blogger sites.

So I think google is more interested to see their ads on unused domains. So the company that should be worried is SEDO, Domain Hop, and other parking program, since they know compete with Google for their parking domains.

Excellent point, shilmy.

Exactly!

Don't be suprised to see Google offer a discounted pricing structure for domain registrations. Maybe a cheapo $2.99 domain registration but you need to have a landing page (with google ads on it) for a month or so OR a regular registration for $6.95.

But I definitely see them entering the parked domain market. They will probably offer a domain parking service that serves their ads. Also, anything Google does, expect to see Yahoo doing the same thing too!

Competition is good for the consumer. I wish Microsoft had a real rival. :|

Google is now an ICANN-accredited registrar of domain names, providing it with yet another potential line of expansion.

Don't understand, but is there honestly anything worthwhile left to register? LOL

Google should enter the drop auction market if it is looking for yet another potential line of expansion.

It would make sense for them, especially since they already provide Google ads to Sedo and probably some others as well. That is probably where they are headed.

But you know, I hope Google doesn't get so diverse that they let all their services fall in quality like others have. A lot of companies forget where their bread is buttered.

Google is already in the parked domain market. They just offer it to large clients, if you part at sedo for example you are really using googles services in a large part for parked domains.

Sun seems to be the only company that really competes with M$ fully. They offer full OSs, Office Software, programming systems etc...

There's another earlier thread on this somewhere, but Google themselves say they are not inerested in selling names right now, but leveraging the knowledge of being an ICANN registrar with database access to improve the search business. There are other accredited registrars that don't openly sell names, including AOL, and Amazon.com. I can see them at some point doing so in a manner more like Yahoo in the furtherance of a portal site as another tool for search, gmail (on your own name?), google groups, and maybe hosting. Imaging if startup websites included adsense as a built in feature for them to sell search.
