I can't figure out if this is a joke or not :o

"A Utah woman walked into the middle of a highway and was hit by a car. She's suing Google because she wasn't smart enough to use her Blackberry in conjunction with her brain."

Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions -  PC World Article - Tech & Gadget - MSN CA

Anyone ever seen this warning before?
"Walking directions are in beta. Use caution--This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths."

I'm so behind in the times, all my phone tells me is it needs minutes,
and that's it! :|

Hehe I bought a new phone the other week that does everything, most of which ill probably never use, im not into phones much :P

I think people need to get a grip of reality, people seem to sue at any old excuse now its just ridiculous.

Google directions right or wrong dont supersede the old "look both ways" and its against the law to walk accross a highway.

The amazing thing is she is alive

Well, that never would have happened to a man since they use their brain when it comes to directions and phones....LOL(sorry girls!!)

I think this will just be dismissed...oh wait....google didn't put a sticker on their phone" don't stick your cat in your microwave since this could possibly harm the cat" or similar...you get my point i hope....

Cheers

This is pretty weird. I thought google would have had enough disclaimers in their TOS for their service.
Besides i think the service should be used with a bit of discretion, instead of just blindly following it.
If you use such maps in india, you are most likely to reach a dead end soon. Though the major cities are done pretty well. I found it pretty useful when i was going around delhi.

It's time people started taking responsibility for their own actions & stop blaming everybody else for their stupidity. They should introduce a test to prove you're not too stupid to own a gps device.

It's a well documented fact that men would sooner die than ask directions OR look at a map :) :).

That particular woman sounds like she's either a total idiot, lawsuit-happy or looking for publicity. Maybe all 3.

They should introduce a test to prove you're not too stupid to own a gps device.

:tu: Maybe another test to show you can safely be allowed to walk in public.

ugh... ya beat me to the punch, enlytend! i was about to say very similar...

anywho, she will either be sipping margaritas on her own island with the gal that spilled hot McCoffee on her lap :'( or, hopefully, be given a very heavy, very bright and very loud interactive map to dumbville as a consolation prize. what an idgit walking onto a highway mistaking the hum of passing cars and honking horns for a doorbell..........

What people think up to make money! Does she really believe she will get some money from the Big G?

Unfortunately no joke. People like that really do exist.

On the surface this may seem like such a ludicrous lawsuit
came to exist because of technology and that some people just
can't get a handle on the fact that there will always be some
limitations with it. But sadly I think I found a case that easily
tops that and it doesn't involve technology (not in a direct way).
Case in point, from last year:
Woman Sues Cap'n Crunch For Tricking Her

The mother doesn't need a blackberry. She needs a babysitter to take care of her 24/7 if she can't even stay cautious and take care of her own self in a potential fatal incident like this.

Unfortunately as stated this is not a joke.

The woman must be extremely stupid to 100% rely on such a service. Doesn't common sense come into it at all?

Although this does highlight 1 thing. Again Google are hiding behind the fact that the projecy is in beta. Fristly there does not appear to be anything advising you of this. Also how much longer are Google going to keep their products in beta. Beta is intended for testing. I am not sure how long walking directions have been out but it is a few years at least. The same goes for gmail which has been released for about 7 years yet still in beta (and they have used it as an excuse multiple times when buggering up peoples accounts).

Google need to grow some balls and release their products properly.
