Seems like a fairly decent change - more accurate results and on-page SEO is more important than before.

This change was made by google in response to the newly launched microsoft bing. The new google is fast as compared to the old one and it relies more on keywords now. Though bing provides more results for a specific keyword as compared to google but that doesn't count (in my opinion) as we only need the best results shown on the first page and thats what google is doing. I still use google as my default search engine.
