How many of you use this as a basis to make domain purchases? How accurate would you say it is? The reason being I recently acquired some domains using the tool for EXACT searches and when I tried out an estibot appraisal it showed far less for exact searches.

I am talking 110000 exact with google v 20 per month with estibot.Its not that there is a new product out there that is faulting estibot,the domains I bought would have had the same figures a year ago.

So who is right? How much faith do you put in google adwords,keyword tool?

I put a good deal of faith in it. From what I've seen, the numbers add up for Adwords.

From what i can see the keyword tool will throw the long tail into the main phrase. It used to not be that way. 6 months ago the long tail reporting was more clear. Now it seems as though they have disappeared.

What about for exact searches for words or combination of words?Is it like it says an exact result?

Use multiple keyword tools and look for strong numbers across the board. Weak individual numbers are real signals more often than not. The most reliable and direct way to refine your name picking system is to compare predicted vs actual traffic of the keyword names in your portfolio.

In my experience, The google keyword tool is far better than any of the others mentioned in this thread...Google has the money, resources, and history to far surpass any other keyword tools....I guess it's still a good idea to check the other results also, but when I buy a domain based on search terms, I strictly use google only...

I bet the domains that you're talking about have more than 4 words. I think Estibot only looks at the first 4 and evaluates that portion of the name.

Yes the adwords tool is very good, but imperfect, so I don't recommend using it alone. In addition to cross checking multiple keyword tools, it's a good idea to apply a smell test - ask yourself if the exact keyword phrase makes sense as a domain name. Here's an available name I noticed a few months ago: TomatoesSalmonella.com. Salmonella outbreaks are sometimes associated with tomatoes, but the exact phrase "tomatoes salmonella" is awkward, prone to spelling errors and rarely used in conversation, flunking the smell test.

"tomatoes salmonella"
Google adwords keyword tool exact match global monthly search volume = 33,100
Keyworddiscovery = 104 (exact order)
SEOBook = 0

The adwords result if viewed alone might support a hand reg, but the tool cross check and smell test suggest otherwise.

Google keyword tool aggregate web traffic numbers from their world-wide network which currently has a reach into 85% percent of natural search. There results are definately reliable.

However, I like to compare these keyword results with Spyfu.com which gives a more accurate view to:

  • Bidding Advertisers
    Cost/Click
    Clicks/Day

Remember though, that most of these statistics reflect sponsored linking.
