Good CMS for browser games? GPL? PHP-Nuke?

I've been looking into things like joomla, drupal, and phpnuke. I like what I see (except for joomla's url garbage) Now, I do know some coding, but not too much (took one semester of java and scored flying colors - and I've been micro(MICRO!)dabbling for years). I'm considering attempting a simple browser-based game site. Gameplay would be along the lines of hobowars or something. No 2D engine or anything, just text-based.

So. . .would it be a good idea to install a cms and then add on a php game engine? I think the cms would make the community aspect of the site great to manage, but I'm not so sure about the feasability of adding on self-created "modules" and whatnot. I played with joomla for a bit, and for the most part it was pretty neat. Apparently drupal almost unquestionably pwns it, though?
What about good-old phpnuke in all this?

Mechanics I plan on implementing:
trading items
game currency (that can be purchased with real currency)
coordinates
simple combat (or maybe no "combat")

Also, what about GPL and stuff? Would it be legit to start a site and make money off users coming and purchasing premium accounts for the game?
I guess it depends on the CMS? All the open-source stuff goes on about "freedom for any purpose."

Thank you!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this didn't really answer my question.

I actually spent a good 3-4 hours with joomla - btw.

I did look into the so-called "built-in SEO support" only to discover that the nonsense rabble was merely simplified (even tried it out). Not giving up hope, I installed a stable older version of sh404se. Same error as the beta. At that point, I realized that my joomla theme wasn't that important. So, I installed drupal and found the interface to be very simple, logical, and pleasing. Unforunately, host gator and drupal don't make love, even though it comes with it, so I had to perform my .htaccess and php.ini rites before I could play with it. However, once I got it working, I realized that I really like drupal so far. If I could use it, that would be great.

Back to the actual question at hand. . .

So, I'm looking at using drupal or maybe another cms to build a game / social experience around. Good idea or fraught with peril?

Thanks.

did you use Joomla 1.5 or the old version
(Do not use Joomla 1.3x for any NEW installations)
Joomla 1.5 has excellent SEO URL support builtin no need to Install and use any addons

1/ rename the supplied htaccess.txt to .htaccess in base dir of Joomla installation
2/ in the admin section of joomla administrator section
a/ goto global configuration
b/ far right of screen is the SEO URL options ,select yes for all 3 options
now the default URLS will be of the form
http://www.Sitename/Section/Category/article-name.html

man, forget phpnuke. It is the worst cms in terms of security. And I think drupal is much more customizable than joomla.

Its really between Drupal and Joomla...they are both on par.

Personally, I hate Joomla. Its overly complicated and very bulky. Drupal is very clean and easy to work with.

Drupal

I've been playing with Drupal for a while now. I like the clean and simple interface, and clean urls feature works perfectly. However, even though Drupal has been great, I have been suffering this aformentioned problem
