That's what Insight cable is telling me. Thought I currently had 10 megs but they told me on the phone today that I have about 4 megs currently and that updating to Broadband 5.0 with 50 megs will be lightning fast and say goodbye to things such as video game time lag. I'm not much of a gamer though.

They will be out here today to hook it up. I'm hoping that combined with my i7 processor will be a big improvement. It's worth a try. It's an additional $50 per month so if it's not I'll drop it.

I dont think you'll see much difference. 50 Mbit/s connection will be between you and your cable provider. Outside of your local loop, not much servers can provide you with that kind of upload. About games, lag depends of many things, such latency, not only of speed itself. Stable, 5-10 Mbit/s connection, with proper rutting, should be more than enough for online gaming. I dont see that upgrade worth $50, except if you have some special network needs.

Exactly.. I actually dropped a tier from Premium Service with my ISP because I didn't see any improvement.. It really depends on who you're connecting to..

It was already pretty fast and now It is a little faster. $50 per month faster? I'll probably keep it. I'm wireless so if I plugged in I'm sure I'd see a bigger improvement.

The original modem and router the cable company had brought out can't handle it so they brought out a new modem and Belkin router.

If you spend a lot of time online and you get the opportunity to check it out, I think it's worth a try.

Your wireless connection should be around or near your bandwidth ISP, so there will be no much difference if you plug cable ("Old" wireless standard, 802.11a, supports up to 54 Mbps, which is similar to bandwidth your ISP gave to you).

For $50 per month, I would rather lease dedicated server then little faster connection, but your choice :) Good luck happy new year :)
