I have enjoyed this board a ton. But lately i think kids are posting the url around the teen boards. Jr please start bouncing the people that do nothing but bring down your valued name. When someone posts i have this for sale.... for this amount . Please start bidding at this..... then you get nothing but i will pay you 2 bucks ...... or your not selling anything worth that. Keep your option to yourselfs as they arent only running your business into the ground but everyones. I havent seen a decent price for domians or businesses even with income from this board for long time. This is turning into the walmart of the internet. Now the kids are saying this is good , well maybe for today but tomorrow brings the time you need to sell your hard built site. Or great domian name, and the same people that have no money will trash your thread and you will be crushed when they offer you 2 cheeseburgers for your work. If it says 50 bucks no matter what, that mean 50 bucks or shut your mouth, dont aim people asking for there traffic sources and if they will help you for free. people do this for a living, and the people that work nights for 5.25 an hour come on here and act like they are experst at valuating things. I ask for change around here , please post remarks....

There is a similar thread regarding this matter in the forum, and I tend to agree with it. I believe Name Pros would be much better off if it were a private forum (Perhaps a small membership fee to weed out those not totally committed to the business).

The problem with this, is, that if this became a paying forum, i would leave, as it takes out the heart of the forum IMO....

Making a Pay area would take away some of the nonsense although it would also take out some great members who do not wish to pay for it.. So its a 50/50... ;)

IMO I would pay..

One thing I've noticed is that sellers often do not put a price range they are looking for, which would avoid a lot of confusion and these lowball offers you are talking about it. It's not always a matter of being a kid who's got some allowance money. I'm a long way from that, but I'm new to the game, and I am not versed enough to know all the time what a domain is worth. In fact, I've been burned a couple of times with high priced domains. So I have offered a lowball offer sometimes on items with no range, and got at least one rude comment back about it. If there had been a price range, would have known where to start if I was interested instead of making the "ridiculous" offer as you put it.

I am mostly retired due to health and have taken up domain speculation as a hobby and hopefully make some money at it in the process. I'm not yet good enough at the game to make a living at it, but you have to learn somewhere. I've learned a lot since coming here and I think that is where the market for NamePros is, serving as a learning zone. A pay area to keep out the "riffraff" would do more to damage that than to help it. If you do domains for a living, great. We'd all like to do that. But we all start from different backgrounds and conditions. NamePros is one of the largest communities on the net because of this diversity. That is it's charm and it's anchor. Unbalance that and it will not be the same place...

My 2c for what it's worth...

Well I have to agree with some of the points made here. Theoretically, setting a payment to be a member should work - but IMHO it doesn't. I cite WHT as an example - they made a switch to premium memberships and it didn't work. Most memberships weren't renewed and I haven't heard much from the program since. Most people realized it still doesn't keep the bad hosts out.

It's the same with a certain rival forum to NP. They've based their membership on paid accounts - and it's worked, to an extent. I can say from personal experience that things still go on and I still get lowball offers from paying members and their community isn't nearly as friendly IMHO. The other thing is, even teens can afford a $50 payment. If you go much higher you start chasing away members. And personally, I'm not going to pay for what I can get for free at another forum.

This forum vied never to become a paid forum, a forum should be a free thing, why must you pay to speak to members.

We can look at doing when namepros becomes overcrowded and has over 100,000 posts with 50,000 members and stuff, but that's a long way from happenning.
