Firstly, apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place or even if this is the sort of thing name pros isn't for.

I've been doing some research ahead of a website I plan to build and I won't lie, it's actually only made me more confused. Let me start by saying the only thing I've done so far is purchase the domain name with GoDaddy.

However, I want to build a website and since I don't have any programming or much HTML experience, I think using a website builder is the wisest option. To explain the site, I'd want to have some pages of static information, a page for videos, a page for a blog where I can upload articles regularly and this is what has made me lean to a full website rather than a blog. However what is tripping me up is advertising ability.

I've looked at Wordpress and although it seems very user friendly, from what I've seen I can't use Adsense on it unless I get Wordpress.org. However if I use Wordpress.org, I have to build things from scratch and not with a website builder, so this doesn't seem like a viable option for me unless I'm wrong?

The solution that I believe exists is to use GoDaddy to build and host the site, and I can put Adsense on the pages. For the blog part, I would create a free Wordpress blog and get a plugin for the GoDaddy site, thus allowing me to have the full website with a blog, but also to monetise the site. Is my thinking correct?

As I'm sure you can tell I'm new to this, but I've tried the best I can to come up with the solution and seek your advice. Any help or insight is much appreciated.

Just build it on Wordpress.com and forget about Adsense. You won't have any traffic at the start anyway. If you want to go to a self-hosted site later (as per Wordpress.org) you can click a button to export everything you have on Wordpress.com, then you click a button to import it all to your new site.

Blog is inbuilt to any Wordpress site whether or not you use it - you can always create either a page or blogpost, you will see when you try it and read more.

BTW Godaddy hosting sucks and many would say it is best to keep domain and hosting at different companies.

Wordpress is a "website builder", or content management system. Probably the most user friendly one out there. I would suggest finding a hosting provider and installing wordpress. Any questions you have about that you can find answers to at the forum at wordpress.org

Also, as carob said, I would not recommend using Godaddy as your hosting provider.

You can use hostgator for hosting and just point the godaddy domain to ur hostgator nameservers. Then use Hostgators hosting control panel to install wordpress to ur domain.

Drop me a PM if u need some pointers or advice...

Wordpress.org is damn cool and simple and user friendly engine. If you don't have a couple hours to read some tuts or to watch some videos, just outsource it on Fiverr or Upwork, now every granny and her dog know how to set up WP sites.

^^ Totally agree, listen to this man.

You can use hostgator for hosting

Sorry, this is poor advise. Hostgator ruled maybe 3 years ago but now it's a pile of shit. Just google for reviews. There are much better shared hostings out there. PM me if you need more info.

WPEngine is by far the best managed WP host I've ever used. Check them out. Also, use Wordpress.

Without any coding experience all you need is a proper theme that includes Visual Composer (which is essentially a "drag and drop" page builder of sorts) and demo content. Once installed, you can just change around the existing demo content to fit your needs. It's the simplest method while maintaining control of your project, content and SEO efforts. Also, almost every quality theme (check ThemeForest.net or StudioPress.com) comes with a complete How To guide to install the theme and edit it.

Wordpress is not just for blogs. You'll see that very quickly once you start hunting down themes! It's an all encompassing CMS that can do just about everything you need to do without any coding.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies and input. I have decided to go with WordPress but I understand that unless I use WordPress.org I can't use AdSense. However, am I right in believing that if I use WordPress.com, I can place a donate button on my site? I don't expect much revenue from that but I think it's an option to consider. My intention now is to create a full WordPress website so that I can include all the content I've mentioned above.

Also, if I am using the WordPress.com Premium plan, can someone please explain in layman's terms why I need to find a WP host? Is my website not hosted by WP itself when I create my website under Premium?

I disagree - I have been using HG for about 10 years now, excellent service and support.

I'm not sure what their "premium" is, havent been using them for a few years, but you dont need a hosting if use wp.com, they are hosted solution.
