Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

GoDaddy wants to charge me a Value-Added Tax

Never got an update email regarding this one.
I just won a tdnam auction and went to pay, at the checkout i saw i was charged some extra $$$ in that price because of the VAT.

I dont form any company so i dont think i must get involved with tax.

It seems that many of their services apply that tax now only for european residents.

Just sent them an email asking more info since i m not going to pay some more money for a tdnam auction without getting any notice before bidding regarding VAT.

I think there is an old EU decision about companies selling stuff over the Internet that have to charge VAT for all European customers.

They have to charge VAT and then to send the money to the respective gouvernment.

Still, I only saw very few companies that really charge this tax for European customers.

It's not like Godaddy gets to keep the money. I'm sure if it wasnt necessary they wouldnt charge you

yes i understand that but why this is the only registrar that charges me and why all of the sudden?

All my other godaddy and tdnam sales didnt have this tax charge.
Am i the only one?

Here is my take.

The world economy is going to take a hit. Sure domains are going to keep going up in value, but governments are in debt big time. So get your wallets out folks. The near future will find us all paying more taxes for everything.

That is the only outcome when the world governments go into debt at the rate they have in the past few years. For instance when Bush took office in 2002 we had no government debt. Today his government is NINE TRILLION dollars in debt.

The U.S. government is not the only one that has taken this route. How does this relate to domains?

We will pay more taxes on earned income, on everything we buy and that includes names, renewing them and add on services.

Don't like taxes? Demand your elected officials live within their means.

i m asking again;
Am i the only one that had this tax charge????

WGS_Thunder, thanx for the link, i read it some minutes ago along with othet related articles.
In there i read that they applied this charge from early of August.
I made several payments from that time but never had this charge untill now.

Correction ... the U.S. government HAD nearly 6 TRILLION dollars in debt back in 2000 BEFORE Bush took office.

You're likely confusing the total debt with annual budget deficit ... in the last years of the Clinton adminstration the U.S. annual budget was balanced, but again to be clear, the U.S. had much debt even back then.

On a related note, from what I recall reading, the U.S. government has had debt since around the Civil War in the 1860s.

Ron

p.s. check out the U.S. debt clock - pretty accurate, since it's adjusted often based on public records.

I just won an auction at TDNAM and VAT was added.

I wish I'd seen this thread before, or that they'd mentioned it on the bidding page with the "you have to pay the renewal fee" bit.

It hadn't even occurred to me (only my 2nd time on TDNAM but VAT wasn't mentioned before), so I've had to pay more than I budgeted for when choosing my high bid... :td:

exactly, since then i found a way not to pay the damn vat.
Overall i m thinking to stop tdnam auctions since the traffic shown is not
exactly what u get.
There are examples of 20000 uniques that were 1000.
Alsothere are times i bought a name for 1000 uniques that went 7-8000.

well godaddy doesn't really want to charge you the vat, but by law they have to. also, always be careful when buying domains because of traffic stats since they are easily faked.

I got stung with this today - had to pay $50 in tax on a TDNAM purchase so what I thought was a reasonable buy turned out not to be after I'd paid for renewal fees and VAT. This is the last time I'll use TDNAM & I'm already slowly moving all my domains away from GoDaddy.

godaddy has started cheating customers. I am stuck with them with my 121 domains which i wanted to transfer and they didn't allow me to do it.
They locked the domains for 60 days and i have lost $ 80 due to this locking of GoDaddy.

Their customer support guys were hanging my phone calls :D
