Anyone have a good explanation why .us renewels are now so pricey at Godaddy? Geez.. $19.95.

What is going on and what are you all doing about it?. Are you like me thinking of moving the names out?

Yes, that is outrageous. They brag on their front page about .US registration for $4.99, then they screw you a year later for the $19.95 renewal. They've been doing this for months . It can bite you if you buy expired .US domains on their auction platform too. That $5 "fire sale" buy it now price is really $24.95. I've been complaining to GoDaddy about this enormous price increase for months, but they haven't fixed it . Fabulous.com does not support .US, so I've moved my .US names to Moniker.

Every registrar has it's price structure. They keep space to give out discount~

Transfer your .us to name.com: you will have the domain renewed for 1 year for just $7.99 .

I'm sure it is the same with Moniker too. And lot of other registrars.

Thks louddrum, and all the other info. I know there is a thread about codes and prices, but I am also interested in a dialogue as what in the world can be their reason for such a extreme price. There is only one outcome for Gd for doing this that I can think of.. pissing off domainers and spreading the word that they are the rip offs for .US.

What can they gain? Maybe in short term some profits, but most of us will reg .us somewhere else and Gd will loose those regs and renewels. This just seems so contrary to their m. o. for their business plan. Is it possible they are not getting a break on the price themselves and they are passing that on.?
