I recently " purchased " for $10 a domain name and appraisal from GO DADDY for PIMP.WS and I posted a note in this forum to find out its value - Go Daddy appraised it at 3-7000 and charged me $4.95 for that appraisal

I then posted a thread entitled WWW.PIMP.WS to find out its real uninflated value...

To my shock, I then find out that a guy called Tippy states that he owns this domain name..........

so GO DADDY are selling me domain names that are taken and charging me for the priviledge....

EVERYONE BE WARNED ABOUT THIS COMPANY

Here is the evidence..........copied and pasted from my email receipt

It's certainly odd.

Possibly just a one-off though. Glitch in the registry/reg system that allowed you to purchase an already taken domain name.

A question: Does the domain name appear in your GoDaddy account or have you had an email saying the domain is unavailable and can't be added to your account?

If you have been told it's unavailable (by email) they should've refunded the money to your account/payment method. In theory, the appraisal fee should also be included in that - definitely get on to customer service about that.
If the domain is showing in your account (and Tippys) then I've got no clue what they're doing and apparently neither do they.

I've never heard of anything like this before BTW.

.ws is one of those extensions like .eu.
Nothing probably happens in real time

TDNam.com's aution system doesn't seem to be 100% reliable (to say the least)...

I recently bought a .com (private sale, not on TDNam.com by the way) and got it transfered to my Godaddy account.
But 5 days later I got a "sorry, but you've been outbid" message from TDNam, and it seemed like someone had "bought" my $500 .com for $10 there..
And I've never placed a bid on TDNam for that domain either.

The domain is still in my account with more than one year left, so I guess there's someone in a similar situation as yours somewhere else now. :)

So the TDNam mess doesn't just involve .ws, but other extensions as well.

But For A Company That Wants To Go Public??

Absolutlely no excuse - they did not offer to refund my money till I got in touch with them - what alot of grief this has caused me - thinking I bought a real nice domain name and then finding out otherwise.

Go daddy should go to hell.

lol, strong words MILLERSCROSSING. Its unfortunate, but this sort of mess up does happen in a market like this. I agree though that godaddy's refund policy is shocking. I myself had to put in well over 2 hours work spread across nearly two weeks to get a refund for a listing on tdnam after it sold to a fraudulent buyer, then there's the .eu landrush regs that were unsuccessful, yet still appear as pending in my account and that I still haven't been refunded for...

It is a consequence of the industry what has happened to you, and I must say I place Godaddy as my no1 registrar, but their refund policy is a scam- I do wonder how much they have made through unclaimed refunds- I'll wager it would buy a few premium domains though...

Did you purchase the domain name at TDNAM ?

Or, did you register the name directly through the Godaddy website?

I once 'regged' news.ws only to learn that it was taken later.

It sucks, and you should contact them re: getting your $$$ back from that appraisal. Certainly sucks..

"Sh!t Happens", and while I agree GoDaddy has flaws, the "go to hell" comment is probably a bit strong. They might have cost you $10 due to a server error, but I'm sure they'll give you the money back for at least the domain, and most likely the appraisal if you write coherently and calmly to their support department explaining the entire situation. Note: CALM. (Attract more flies with honey)
GoDaddy has always been good to me, and others, when it comes to refunds (Even when I bought a domain that I spelled incorrectly, due to no fault on their part.).
