I received an email for this and inputed my ICANN code, but I don't see any buttons on GoDaddy's website that basically says "Looks good" or something like that.

Do we just need to input the code and that's it?

Post the text of the email with any #'s blocked out - I imagine this is just one of their routine emails about whois info being correct, but it also sounds like they could have received a complaint about your whois being incorrect?

Post and we'll see!

I got several in the last few days.

THEY say it's my second notice.

Dear [- me -], "

Several months ago you received notice to update the contact information for your domain name(s). According to our records, you have not completed that update. It’s important that you do so immediately.

Under ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) rules and the terms of your registration agreement, PROVIDING FALSE CONTACT INFORMATION CAN BE GROUNDS FOR DOMAIN NAME CANCELLATION (to review the ICANN policy, visit: http://www.icann.org/whois/wdrp-registrant-faq.htm).

ICANN annually requires that all accredited registrars (like Go Daddy) ask their domain administrators/registrants to review domain name contact data, and make any changes necessary to ensure accuracy. To review/update your contact data, simply:

+ Go to http://www.godaddy.co
Code:
NOTE: If the link does not work, copy and paste the URL into your browser.
+ Click on the "ICANN Domain Confirmation" icon at the top of the page
+ You will be taken to a landing page and asked to enter your Domain Information Key:
[xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]
+ Enter your key and click "Go."

Next, simply review the contact information for each domain name. To make a correction, log in to "My Account" with your customer number or log in name and password. Click "Manage Domains," select the domain to update, then click "Contact." If you find that your domain contact data is accurate, there's no need to take action. If, however, your domain contact information is inaccurate, you must correct it.

Should you have any questions, please email us at [email protected] or call our customer support line at (480) 505-8877.

Thanks for your attention and thank you for being a GoDaddy.com, Inc. customer.

Sincerely,
GoDaddy.com, Inc. Domain Support

If you are the domain administrator of more than one GoDaddy.com domain account, you may receive this notice multiple times."

I received one of these as well. The active link in the email just took me to the gd homepage. I thought it was strange until I noticed a link for ICANN at the top of the homepage. Red letters reading 'ICANN Domain confirmation page' beside of a blue globe. I clicked there and everything went fine.

If you read the whole email, it says pretty clearly you don't need to do anything if your info is right.

You should probably take the time to make sure that all of your domains do have valid whois information; I haven't received this version of the email (Much more menacing than their typical "Hey it's that time of the year again!" emails... unless GoDaddy just doesn't love me anymore and has stopped sending emails.).

I've had one too. Agree with you Allan. I actually updated the domains listed, even if it was correct. Did anyone ever get the first email? I don't recall receiving one.

I don't recall the first notification either.

I just had an email exchange with my GD account manager...

{snip}This is what I most object too..

reply..

The emails is pregenerated from ICANN. Yes, it is very threatening, but this is what ICANN chose to send out. As long as you are not purposely putting invalid whois on your domains you have nothing to worry about.

So. Unless ICANN have a different email for each registrar, we can expect to see the same wording coming from other registrars.

I received the same email stating this was my second notice and that bad things may happen if I didn't confirm my contact information.

However, there was no way to confirm at the site after I entered my "domain information key" plus there were only 3 domains listed out of my 450+ held at GD.

Then today, my account was locked for no apparent reason.

I received the first email September and the 2nd notice a few days ago. I have only 10 domains and the Key code typed in for Icann specified one domain.
I forgot to update my new mailing address and did so today. I still get mail from my old address and nothing from Godaddy about this particular domain. I believe its just routine. When you guys says your account gets locked do you mean you can't log in at all or your domain is locked?
I will try to log in later today and see what happens

Yes. And I reviewed the contact information after receiving the first email and the information was correct.

Then a few days ago, another email arrived containing this language:

"Several months ago you received notice to update the contact information for your domain name(s). According to our records, you have not completed that update. It’s important that you do so immediately."

The email went on to say:

"PROVIDING FALSE CONTACT INFORMATION CAN BE GROUNDS FOR DOMAIN NAME CANCELLATION" in all caps.

Since there was no confirmation link to acknowledge that the information was correct in either email, why in the heck do they now think I need to update anything?

Then, yesterday I had to call to have my account unlocked. I'm not sure if the two issues were related, but I think the language of the second ICANN notice is confusing.........

I got emails just like the ones you all are getting.

I called GD advised that my whois data had been reviewed and was current, and asked if there were any complaints registered regarding my whois data. answer: "no"
I asked if any action was pending on my account. answer: "no"
I asked what would have happened if I had ignored the emails. answer: "nothing"

I'll take the last answer with a grain of salt tho. I'm generally a satisfied GD customer, but microguy's experience this makes me wonder if I was slated for account disabling too.

This will be a consideration as I choose where to park my domains.

Anyone seen or know what an "invalid WHOIS" email from Godaddy looks like?

Or is it the same wording as the ICANN conf'ns?

I've had it and checked, my info is fine.

All you do is click the button and enter your info provided in the email, it's pretty routine and i doubt you'll have any incorrect info.

See attachment :

Yes,

I think by not responding and not clicking on that Icaan button at the top of the godaddy, the link will show Icaan you did not respond. Click on that red button that says Icaan. Then you will not get into trouble.

I've had one in the past. It's definitely different. I don't have the email anymore. From memory, it gives you 5 days to respond before your domain is suspended.

The email we are all talking about is the new "check your domain contacts" email that the registrars always send out. The wording is decided by ICANN. I got the same advice as 2knew. Provided your contacts are correct, you don't need to do anything. As it also says in the email.

You know what though, my lady friend ignored one she got from Icaan a few months back and now a few days ago we get this email that says You failed to update your who is and you are required to do so and this is your last warning.

So we went into Godaddy and clicked on the Red, Icann banner and followed the procedures with updating. I think it somehow gets registered that you did look over your names and even if you make no changes they know you looked at your who is information.

Its a serious matter I quess.
