Just browsing the Godaddy close outs @ Freshdrops and indeed some of the names do appear priced at $9...

It's been a while since I used TDNAM, so how new the sliding pricing is I don't know.

New way for GoDaddy to get more $$$ for expiring names.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Go Daddy Auctionsโ„ข Expired Domains Firesale is a 5-day, Buy Now option for expired domain name auctions that have ended. This is a last chance to capture great expired domain names at rock bottom prices (Firesale fee + registration fee) before the expired domain name is returned to the registry. The process is a reverse auction with a starting price of $9 on the first day, $8 on the second, down to $5 on the fifth day.

This option is available after the normal 10 day auction ends. Any auction of an expired domain name that doesn't receive a winning bid will enter the Firesale process.

I was going to post a similar question. It looks to me that those your were watching at $5 are still $5. But those that dropped to the firesale bin 2 days ago stated going at $9, then the next day at $8. It's been two days so far so haven't seen any $7 yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, Looks like godaddy finance guys have come up with some revenue generating methods, looks like domain starts at $9 and drops $1 everyday to $5.

Makes financial sense really, squeezing a few extra bucks out of ever sale.

In the past I've certainly had domains Iโ€™ve been watching with no bids, let it drop to firesale and picked it up for 5 minutes later for $5.

Now you'll be bidding at last minute rather than risk losing it to save a buck lol. Nice little moneyspinner for GD like the fairly recent change from one backorder per name to multiple backorders accepted and then auction.

I don't think my analysis is entirely correct, because I have several domains where the auction ends tonight, which are at $9. So my theory of $1 drop per day doesn't hold up.

My new theory is when a domain drops to the firesale, it automatically goes to 1 day left at $9, then 1 day left at $8 etc. I think this is a bit cheeky by GoDaddy. Puts some added pressure to buy at the higher price, because you never know if it's going to be available tomorrow.

Anyway. I've asked my Account Manager to explain what's going on, but I don't expect I'll get any reply until Monday.

I'm pretty sure my conclusion above is correct, after watching these auctions for a few days.

I just got beat to 3 domains I was watching, waiting for then to drop to $5. They got grabbed at $8 + $9. So this new strategy by GoDaddy seems to be working. At least for them :(

Jeez -
It sounds like GD is just applying the Law of "supply and demand"

$5 or $9 either way still sounds CHEAP if the names are desirable.

GD is smart lol

I just snatched one at $9, didn't wanna wait as the one I grabbed was the missing one out of a complete set I was aiming for, $9 instead of $5 not a big deal.

It is actually a very smart business decision by GD.

Many times people would wait to save the extra $5 waiting for a domain to drop to the closeouts. Sure it doesn't matter on one domain, but it matters on thousands a day that GD sells.

Also, since $9 is virtually the same as $10 it encourages bidding in the auction vs waiting for closeouts. The more bids there are the more potential bidding wars and revenue for GD.

This is a good thing and a bad thing. I'll be paying $5 more for all the names I get through GD, but now I only have to dig through 1 pile of crap instead of 2. ;) Closeouts have been closed out in my book.
