Now I've seen that particular code in this thread several times. Isn't it true that many of these codes we're using are affiliate codes? Is it just the link itself that is tabu, or the codes too? Grateful for clarification from a senior member.

I assume he was talking about the link from user BlackHatWorld.
User BlackHatWorld used an affiliate link in his post (his link redirects to x.co/name.... which in turn redirects to a godaddy affiliate link). This is not allowed in this forum.

In essence the affiliate link itself is taboo since it gives the poster a commission (if you need to put an affiliate link put it in your forum signature).

Affiliate coupon codes (such as the CJ ones) by themselves give the poster no commission except for the WOW affiliate codes which actually give the creator $5 for everyone using his code (and since anyone can create a WOW code in Godaddy it's not allowed to post it here, we're here to help each other out, not to do affiliate marketing/spamming).

So to summarize:
1. Don't use affiliate links.
2. Don't use WOW... coupon codes.

Anything else should be fine.

1. Go to ebay.com
2. On the search box, type domain names
3. Scroll down and at the bottom you can see some registrar promo, I only use godaddy
4. Click thd .99 godaddy link, which redirects to godaddy platform that includes the code.
note: it doesn't work for me when I place the code, not clicking the link.

I couldn't replicate your experience, perhaps it is geo- or habit- based advertising. I get no ads at all except for a sidebar ad for godaddy hosting.

I tried the above and see a 2.95 domain offer instead. Looks like the coupon code is gtnic151

I see they have a new, FUGLY, user interface. My God it looks like Windows 8 which I despise.

Our computer screens are getting larger, more capable phones and tablets and yet these user interface designers are increasingly going backwards through the 1980s. Soon we'll be using "green screen" user interfaces again. Holy cow that new UI Godaddy stinks! The shopping cart keeps getting worse and worse to use.

You'd think that Godaddy would offer domainers a separate system that is easy and quick to use without all the BS.
