GoDaddy bulk renews: "privacy" costs a fortune!

Hi folks,

I've got about 13 domains I need to renew or lose on Go Daddy.

To make the renewals private is going to cost me about $120, bringing the total cost way up.

Is there any other good way to keep people from finding my personal information and protect the domains and prevent myself from being
spammed without making the domains private through the Go Daddy service?

It's been awhile since I looked at this and I don't remember what the options are and the pro's & con's.

Can someone help me out in figuring out what a cheaper but effective approach is?

Thank!

Privacy for free mostly means that you got first year free and next for 2$ or so (like at namecheap).

name.com also offers free whois privacy.

Domainsite.com hidden whois for 50 cents/year, each year. Basic .com reg for 6.99

Moniker offers $1 privacy so if it's really that important to hide your whois info, you might want to consider transferring to them.

Izy,
I paid $2.40 when I transferred to Moniker. How long has the $1 privacy been in place, or what do I need to do to get it at that price?
thanks

well, actually Godaddy offers free privacy for 5+ domains, so for your 13 names it would cost $0 :)

If I'm not mistaken, that works for year 1 only. After year 1 you need to pay for the privacy.

I'm going through the process of trying to find the damn DomainsByProxy login that corresponds with a domain I need to renew :|

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong re: free privacy for year 1 only?

Privacy, what a waste of money! Like buying a useless additional warranty on a new product that has a warranty!! Domainers buy domains to sell to interested buyers. WHY would one want to hide from them?? On top of which, one is trusting someone else with the communications and handlings of your names, and depending on them doing so in a timely and efficient manor when situations arise!!

Use your initials, get a PO box, a dedicated email, and save some money! (You can send half what you save to me instead, and you'll still be ahead of the game!!!)

Yeah I agree I use them to and the privacy option is expensive. It sucks because I refuse to have domains without it.. :/

Excellent point! I have to get a PO Box. However, meanwhile, I transferred from GoDaddy to Answerable.com, as someone above suggested. Free privacy, better reg fee. Worked great. So far, pleased with Answerable.com

ha ha yes, the domains by proxy process recall process is really user unfriendly...yep 1 year only..probably better to transfer to namecheap before the end of the month for $5.99 and pick up a free privacy for each.
