Does anyone know how many times a domain name is checked (per minute / per hour) by Godaddy Backorder service to see if it can catch it?

There is a field "Last checked on" and you can refresh the page, but it doesn't change. Is Godaddy that slow?

Was the name registered with Godaddy before, or was it another Registrar?

Just to note, in case ya didn't know: GoDaddy has far better chances snapping up a name that was regged at GoDaddy prior to its expiration. :)

No. When a domain drops, it's free for all, no registrar is in a privileged position. Because the domain name is dropped by the registry, the registrar is no longer in control by the time the name enters redemption status.
But in prerelease (expired but no drop) the registrar holds the card.

I used a discount code 2 days ago and it worked and brought down the price to 15 or 14 dollars. Damn i dont remember which one i used. Maybe it was ZINE10 which i used for many things. try out

Edit: just tried ZINE10 , but doesn't work anymore

Edit2: here is one which works gdx421e
brought down to 15$

i think in redemption grace status a registrar is still able to get the name back, for a higher fee. Ony in Pending delete its too late to do anything and it will drop

BTW, unless i am wrong , backordering a domain which was registered with godaddy , with godaddy backorder doesn't make sence to me. Don't they send it then to public godaddy auction then? Its better to watch their auction, if the name appear there and someone else is bidding, simply bid too, if not , wait for the closeouts at the end, where you can buy it for fix price of 11 - 5$.

It may be free for all (as it is) but domains that drop from GoDaddy get backordered/snapped up by GoDaddy better than a dropping domain from Moniker getting snapped up by GoDaddy. Research it :)

I think it'd be better if I reworded that:

If a domain was regged at GoDaddy & dropped, GoDaddy has better chances of snapping it up compared to GoDaddy trying to snap up a name dropped by Moniker, Fabulous etc.

With expiration you mean exactly what?
Grace Period? Redemption period? pending delete?

This is false. As sdsinc stated all dropping domains are a free for all. All desirable domains will have backorders on them at SnapNames/NamJet or will be on Andrew Reberry's radar. SnapNames/NameJet/Reberry are most likely to capture the domain on the drop whichever register the domain was formerly registered. Even if it was a GoDaddy registered domain. GoDaddy has absolutely no preference on these domains, and will 99% of the time fail to capture said desirable domains.

What GoDaddy captures is domains that nobody else wants (most of the time), and could quite as easily have been hand-regged (most of the time). They very rarely beat a drop-catcher to a dropping domain, whether it is regged at GoDaddy or not. So a GoDaddy backorder is next to worthless for any desirable domain, but is some kind of insurance against other hand-reggers of that domain getting there first. They will beat only the hand-reggers most of the time (but not even them all the time).

Backordering a domain at GoDaddy is a little like playing Russian Roulette. It captures domains nobody else has bothered to backorder. If you win, you capture a domain which has little demand. If you lose, then you should have backordered it at SnapNames/NameJet. Of course there will always be exceptions to the rule. One exception being if you backorder/win a brandable domain and successfully develop it.

Ok the DNS of the name changed now to POOL.com
Is there still a chance that they will drop it , and that this might be tasting?

Regarding Drop - Godaddy, etc.:

If a domain was regged at GoDaddy & dropped, GoDaddy has better chances of snapping it up compared to GoDaddy trying to snap up a name dropped by Moniker, Fabulous etc.

As i understand, when a .com or .net name goes to pending delete and drops, its all in the hands of Verisign in this phase and not the Registrar anymore. So even if the name belonged to Godaddy before, after going to pending delete, Godaddy's chance to get it, is not higher than getting a name which didn't belong to them before, but equal.
Only before the pending delete status, Godaddy has more control over its own names. But not after pending delete status. I might be wrong but this is how i understand it.

It was with another registrar. The name which they failed to get was actually with godaddy though.

I think now, when you back order a domain with godaddy and they are the current registrar for it, it doesn't get deleted and you win it via their TDNAM auction.

Maybe I didn't get your point.
When a domain is deleted post-redemption, it doesn't matter which the previous registrar was.
In the case of prerelease/godaddy auctions the registrar is still in control.

Domainers confuse expired auctions with true drops.

Correct.

If we don't get your point, then maybe you should re-phrase it? But three of us here have told you that GoDaddy has no preference in capturing previously registered GoDaddy domains. They would only capture it if nobody else bothered to backorder it someplace else, ie basically only a less desirable domain (of which there are a lot regged at GoDaddy). Does that help with the re-phrasing?
