Kinda annoying

Domain with no bids for 7 days

I put a 12 dollar bid with 1 min left

and someone bids the price up to 500

Better off marking the domain and waiting for closeouts

Really stupid format

How did that happen? If your bid was $12, the next bid would have been $17. Are you saying you bid up to $495 and got outbid? What was the domain name?

I think the problem is cherry-pickers keep refreshing the 'expiring soon' auction page and when you put a bid in the last 2 minutes, it will be first on that list. Then they bid the price up to very high levels.

Either that or Godaddy has hank alvarez on their payroll.

What was the domain name? Also you should bid between 2-3 minutes before auction close. Not 1 minute, which adds another 2 minutes to the auction.

"I put a 12 dollar bid with 1 min left and someone bids the price up to 500" second bidder is domain owner.

GoDaddy weekly auctions are also can be bad...2 years ago i won an auction but domain owner did not send the domain..I sent lot of emails to godaddy, no response, seller no response , my money and domain gone..

ฤฑt is like a jungle...

This is very alarming to hear as Go Daddy should have at least refunded your money. What did they say as to why they did not?

God, monkeychatter.

What he's saying is that he bid, and then the bidding got run up to $500. What he's (incorrectly) surmising is that if he hadn't bid, the name would've hit the closeouts and been had for $11.

He believes that the $500 bidding war was impelled on the basis of his $12 bid made in the last minute and NOT on the basis of several other bidders waiting in front of their screens poised to do exactly the same thing.

Not to say that really good names don't fall through the cracks and into the closeouts, though. Someone told me that UpToBat.com actually cleared the auction process and made the closeouts a couple days ago. I was busy and unavailable, otherwise I would've damn sure bid on that. Further proof that domainers are, generally speaking, dumber than most roadkill.

Well I think I am correct because I marked several domains that were around of the same caliber. The one that got interest is the one I bid on late. The others, that are AS GOOD I submitted no bid and have now have the option to buy it in closeouts.

A lot of people there have the sheep mentality imo. Their thinking is along the lines of 'If someone bid on it then it MUST have value'

Whilst I might agree with your closing argument. You are asking us to agree with the almost impossible. Were you in the bidding war or did you drop out at $12? At what price did you drop out and watch the proceedings? How many other bidders were there besides you? How long did it take to get to it's closing price?

Any seasoned bidder knows to bid on a domain with less than 2 minutes to not get another 2 minutes added to the domain auction. So I find it incredulous that they would wait until less than 2 minutes to go before placing a first bid.

You still have not told us the domain name, despite repeated requests. What does it matter to you what the domain is now you've lost it?

I ended up winning the auction but paying more than I had ever thought of paying. I'd would definitely post it if I had lost. I learned my lesson and won't bid in the last few minutes with no bids.

While I can't post the domain I won, here is a similar example from my watchlist(only because I spotted a strange bidding war) of a unattractive domain that got run up in price. Poor Bidder 1:

That domain shows up as a PR4.

People buy domains for various reasons, including PR.

Places like godaddy and namejet it's best to wait to the end because I know there are people who just look for auctions with bids instead of doing their own research.. But anyways, sometimes there are various people waiting for the last minute as well.... There are also people who use automated bidding tools so their bids get entered at the last minute. It happens..

@domainhacks That bidding war lasted about 1hr before the auction closed. Not 1 minute. It looks entirely normal to me. Would it be possible to post the same for the domain you won but blank out the domain name?

@werty I didn't know there were any bidding tools for GoDaddy Auctions. Can you please share with us?
