Getting a Custom Theme done

I am thinking that it is about time for my Forum to have a custom theme. Something that works for the entire site. However I have never hired anyone to do a custom VB theme for me before. I have had people do some for me for other sites, but they were friends.

Anyway, what are some things that a designer needs to know for me to get a GOOD site done, something to the way that I am looking for.

he must know what you want pretty much. link them to other sites you like the style of, give him a basic colour scheme etc

I would agree you need to be as detailed as possible. This could go all the way down to link colors and styling of buttons, location of menus. You should let him know everything running threw your mind even if it isn't design orientated, but fluidity.

Make sure that you check the portfolio of whoever you are going to hire. Look at whether or not they have designed vBulletin skins in the past and if you like their designs.

Thanks for the info everyone.

My only problem is that if I have to get WAY down in detail then I would be able to do it myself.

Is there anyone out there that if I gave them a "feel" of what I am looking for that they could show me something quick before they go too far into it? Or is that really just wishful thinking.

I am sure that's what designers do. You give them a color scheme, maybe a logo, and an idea and they are off.

bluenoser, going along the lines of what ablaye said it's important to find someone who has experience with designing a VB theme. Perhaps you can look at samples of their work (that they did for other clients) and point out things you like.

Thanks for the help....

I think that near the middle of the month I will start to look for a decent designer, someone, as you suggest, has some background in VB themes.
