New to this. I've owned this domain for 21 years. Is it worth anything? If so, where to sell?

Thanks,

Greg

Personally think no one will want to buy this from you due to potential trademark issues.....could be wrong, but there is some risk attached for potential buyers.....

"GE Technology Infrastructure is a business group of General Electric composed of three GE companies: GE Aviation, GE Healthcare, and GE Transportation"

Even though there a quite a lot of acronyms for "GE" General Electric have got a few bases covered when it comes to trademark classifications.......

"GE has registered this brand as a trademark in many countries around the world, in a range of classes relating to medicine, hospitals and water treatment, including but not limited to classes 1, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 37, 40 and 42."

An example might be GE standing for Georgia (U.S state) = Georgia Technology but even then would a tech company in Georgia want to run the risk of getting sued?

If a company works in a different trademark classification area to the ones that GE have covered then a sale is possible but it could be quite a wait.......

It would be very, very difficult for any TM holder to come after the OP on this domain due to the attribute of it being ACRONYM+Technology.com. It could literally be anything under the sun that is G+E. For example lets make up a good one right now that could work... Green Energy Technology.

In terms of active trademarks under "GE Technology", I've checked Trademark247.com (which is synced to the USPTO) and the USPTO website for an exact match TM and there are zero marks that match it. If you want to argue that GE technology is a common law trademark, you'd most likely need to have extensive surveying just to make your case and that would cost much more than any UDRP.

Also... The General Electric subsidiary you referencing is NOT "GE Technology" it's specifically "GE Technology Infrastructure" which with the added word makes it completely irrelevant in terms of TM risk.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_Technology_Infrastructure

My valuation:

Wholesale: $450 to $1200

Retail: $4500 to $12,500.

Good luck!

I did not say that GE technology was trademarked, but that "GE" has various classifications covered....
re-read what I posted

I was clear in stating companies outside of the classification marks covered might have an interest but that will depend on the acronym and industry and imo will limit the end user pool

I personally don't think companies that work with the same industries as GE will be interested in purchasing this domain (aviation, healthcare, power, renewable energy, digital industry, additive manufacturing and venture capital and finance - courtesy of Wikipedia) as it could cause potential headaches down the road.....

My main point is don't be so quick to jump to TM risk on an acronym+word.com domain. You may think the brand is synonymous to General Electric but its not that simple. Thorough research will give you a clearer picture on this.

Additionally, if there was true UDRP risk i.e confusingly similar/direct match to an existing mark, General Electric would have already litigated to capture this domain, you'll see that pattern in the existing WIPO decisions in their favor. Every domain they've won via UDRP has been registered in bad faith due to it being a confusingly similar/exact match to an already existing mark and as I said before...there is no mark for "GE Technology".

For the second time I never stated there was any TM's for "GE Technology" :xf.smile:

Interesting case where the domain owner did not contest from 2009

https://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2009/d2009-1438.html

I want to highlight the below as being confusingly similar

A. Identical or Confusingly Similar
The Complainant holds registered GE trademarks, both in the form of standard-character marks and as figurative marks in which the letters “GE” are the prominent feature.

The Domain Name includes the GE mark in its entirety and adds the dictionary word “entertainment”. This generic addition does not avoid confusing similarity with the mark, particularly since the Complainant has subsidiaries in the entertainment business

Read my last post and the industries that GE are in and you see I have a valid point when it comes to companies in these sectors possibly not wishing to buy this domain

Did you read my post? I've already clearly stated, acknowledged and concisely outlined the premise of General Electric's pattern of litigation.

Lol....are we going in circles here? Or are you just trying to get the last word? I think it's the latter.
