germans like hyphens
but sometimes it's just too much:

today these guys just let a great domain expire

regionale-planungsgemeinschaft-anhalt-bitterfeld-wittenberg(/.)de

to me, this screams opportunity.
I guess they will regret.
catch it!

Germans like hyphens and the alphabet as a whole I assume. No other reason to put in this many letters in a single word imo.

maybe it's because Germans have no humour / humor
so they treat domain - like everything else too - very seriously.

the name has to be "exact"
doesn't matter how long it is
unless it's less than 64 characters

because 64 char would go against the law...

How do they memorize that "sentence" for several sites?

Germans seem to like a bit of English humour :xf.smile: I'm ringing into Munich atm and speaking to IT/Tech VP's and Directors and get the odd chuckle. Has to be at the right moment though - once the business talk is concluded

That would be the Swedish variant. We join several long words together.

It's odd why Germans like hyphens. I always have wondered why, anyone know? I am mostly talking about 2 word hyphenated dot-com.

Maybe it was dropped because they upgraded to:

r-e-g-i-o-n-a-l-e-p-l-a-n-u-n-g-s-g-e-m-e-i-n-s-c-h-a-f-t-a-n-h-a-l-t-b-i-t-t-e-r-f-e-l-d-w-i-t-t-e-n-b-e-r-g (/.)de
:)

By the way are there some advantages to using hyphens as far as SEO is concerned.

I don't think so
63 char ist max for domain names

otherwise it would have been

Sometimes it makes sense to use - 'ed version.

Appleskill
is it
Apple Skill or
Apples Kill

Maybe such confusions is a serious problem in German language.
...........
- seem to be used more often with .de, less often with .com.
