Are you referring to .tv? or is this a general trend of internet search? from what i see the trend is up, .com http://www.google.com/trends?q=.com&ctab=0&geo=all&geor=all&date=all&sort=0

Ok i see this the .tv thread, that would make sense. Just because the current trend is down, dose not mean much in my opinion, look at the long term, it is up. Its quite an interesting chart for .me, massive spike, then down, .mobi reminds me of a heart monitor.....flatlining!

The trend report by Google is basically based on search trends and I was just looking at ".tv"

naturally .com is up, up, up.

Best to use Google Insights - rather than Google Trends.

Have a look at the link below - you will see that .tv seems to be gradually increasing.

You can also play about with the setting and select specific countries, time periods, etc. The results can be pretty interesting.

Some of the results seem very strange to me, dose Sudan even have computers yet? Obviously they do, but it seems strange to have such a high search rate. Morocco no 2 another question mark? Any ideas about these results?

Wasn't there a special offer a few months back with several registrars offering .org domain registration for a very low price to residents of specific countries. If I remember correctly, a large number of African countries were included in this. This might explain the popularity of .org - as well as it being said by many to be the next biggest extension after .net.

I think the results are not actually reflecting the exact status of a particular domain extension.

Have a look at this: http://www.google.com/insights/search/#cat=&q=.games

Do we have any extension called .games? :D

The same pattern is applicable to Google Trends also.

The algorithm simply ignores the dot (.) and shows only the search trends for the entered word next to the dot (.), IMO.

But if you do a search for just games ( without the . ) you will see a complete difference in results .... http://www.google.com/insights/search/#cat=&q=games&geo=&date=&clp=&cmpt=q - so I don't think Google actually dimisses the dot.
But I will agree that the results are somewhat different to what I would have imagined.

yep, noticed that too. Anyhow, the statistics are not reliable for analyzing domain extensions.
