If a single key word is ideal for website development and is only available in .gb.com, would you take it? ...not concerned about the reseller market. Yes I know that at this level .uk.com would be better, but not an option here...and er haven't got the megabucks for the .com....

me, no, not a big fan of second level domains. I think the second dot really blows non-computer people's minds IMHO. Cheers,

same here, the second DOT killed the name!

I am surprised re the comment about the second dot. there is a second dot in the .co.uk extension (not available BTW in the name I am looking at).

Personally I don't like subdomains. I think you will fare much better with a .com, especially if you are in the webdesign business... Having a dot-com presence is a must IMHO.
You can find good names on the aftermarket for a few hundreds $
If you are on a tight budget then do some research to find an unregged .com. It takes time but you should eventually come up with a good name.

if subdomain is not good for development, would it be good for typos?

Yep way too expensive .gb.com...plus not really recognised even at icann
level there is no .gb unless maybe gibraltar???

A .uk.com would be much better however and .co.uk best!

For website development, try to get a .com or .net domain (you can think of your own new name and register it with .com extension - Doesn't have to be a single key word :imho: )

.gb.com prices have dropped. is available now at freeparking.co.uk for ยฃ10pa *2 for 2 years. The alternatives with other better extensions are uglier. I appreciate SDS comment that only .com is valid for a webdeveloper. This would be the key reason for walking away from .gb.com and anything else for that matter. Still, that key single word is still winking at me

I wouldn't touch an unofficial 3rd party 2LD if you paid me. You spend a few years promoting the name, then they go bust or sell their name and your screwed.

I got to agree with everybody else, .gb.com is no good even for your own site

18 dolalrs per year for a subdomain is too much. you can get a .co.uk for half that per year
so thats like 5 pounds x 2 = 10 pounds per 2 years

I wouldn't go with it, you are best to go with a .com domain or something because it causes way too many problems when somebody has to type in two . instead of one.

IMO a .com or .net is better than a second level domain like .gb.com.

Totally agree. top level domains should worth more than second level domains like .gb.com.

Not a good decision, it might look like your site is using a free url redirector, since .gb.com isn't really that popular.

i would rather go for .co.uk

in fact, i like .co.uk more than .com
