The new weekly domain sales Report is out at DNJournal.com. Garry Chernoff, one of the pioneers of the domain investment business, has booked another blockbuster sale. At $500,000 his latest transaction tops our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart and also ranks among the 12 biggest sales reported so far this year. The .coms swept 16 of the 20 chart entries wiith a pair of 3-letter .coms among the top four sales. The ccTLDs claimed three spots on the elite list, one of those coming from a sale that ranked among the year’s 10 biggest country code sales. The non .com gTLDs were limited to one chart entry but that one hit five figures. The category also had a surge in 3-letter .net sales that have been on a hot streak in recent weeks. You can get all of the details here: http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/domainsales/2015/20151209.htm

Drink.com for $500,000 ? :(
Nice sale but this is a 7 figures worth domain name...
Though it seems he sold it to an end user according to the whois information, quote:
"Registrant Organization: Speciality Drinks Ltd"
I guess he didn't mind selling it cheaply.
The buyer had a very good deal.

Its one of those domains where the "S" might make a big difference in pricing. drinkS.com might be worth more to an enduser.

Drink I think of an action.
Drinks I think of product.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I disagree.
Even though the plural may reflect different types of "drink", the singular is much better in branding, shorter and to the point.
A company which holds the singular domain have the advantage over the plural version of the domain.
I believe the singular is better.

This is a nice 6 figures domain sale and I do congratulate the seller :)
But with more effort, it is a definitely low 7 figures worth end user.

Drink.com for $500k i think is a fair price, with a lot of "meat on the bone" left for a fast or long term resale.

Ratios. People assume value of 1/10-1/20 from similar .com

You mean the fact that a handful of LLL.net's reportedly "sold" at exactly the same price at the same auction platform? You mean that question?

Something more than we know, probably. You'd think the self-proclaimed 'Domain Name Industry News Magazine' would investigate further, but no. So we'll probably never know "What's driving up the LLL.net prices?"

A year ago I would have thought the 1/20th net:com ratio was at risk of shrinking even further. Owen Frager was correct in his observation back then about Frank Schilling being on to something when he started buying up large amounts of .net keywords.

At certain point LLLL.net were trading at $500 floor when LLLL.com was flirting with $3,000 floor. That was ratio of 1/6 and I saw that as non-sustainable, personally.

Now LLLL.com floor is closer to $2,000 and LLLL.net floor is $200-220, so it has normalized to 1/10.

By the same logic, because LLLL.org trade at 1/50-1/100 of LLLL.com I see opportunity for arbitrage, because when the dust settles, those should be in 1/10-1/25 range.
