Hi,

I am looking at buying this domain via sedo, the owner wants $2400 for it, do you think his asking price is fair? If you had the money, and wanted the domain for development would you purchase it at the requested price? Any feedback appreciated...

Anyone else with opinions on purchasing this domain, and if paying in the $xxx-$xxxx can be warranted?

It's hard to justify paying a premium for a name with insignificant search volume (keyword directory = 4, wordtracker = 0) unless there is an obvious and compelling business need for the name. If that need exists, the buyer should acquire the name as quickly and quietly as possible to achieve the business need, discourage competitive interests and prevent suggestions of insincere promotion.

I want to secure the name for future development, also as an investment as to what is happening in the oil & gas industry on a daily basis, and going forward. These are past sale prices, some even a few years ago when oil was $70. I am trying to figure out what this domain is valued at, with a little premium priced in.

If it's something you're interested in and something you're interested in developing, I say go for it :)

low XXXX really isn't that much if you start thinking about how much you'd need to make off your site to make that back. Even at $150/month ($5/day), you'd have the entire purchase price paid back in about a year. When you start comparing that to how long it takes most real world business startups (eg. restaurant franchise) to pay back their initial costs, sure seems like a bargain to me if this is all you need to build your empire :)

your absolutely right, thanks for the great advice. In real world terms $2000 won't even cover your deposit on a storefront.

Names of equal value are available for reg fee. An experienced domain investor would not sink $xxxx into a name of this caliber without a solid monetization or resale plan. OP has expressed neither and no one else has offered anything of substance. Voluntary disclosure of a name target in a public forum is a very unusual buy side strategy. OP has responded positively to high appraisals and ignored low ones to a degree rarely seen in sales or owned appraisal threads, and unheard of in a thread seeking buying advice. Gas is not in the future, it's in the room.

I wish to purchase it as an investment, for an energy related site, if you think other names can be had for reg fee, why don't you provide some? I cannot find any, all I see is energy domains are climbing in price every single month, if you think it is worth reg fee, I never said I was going pay asking price, if someone wants to come behind my back and pay asking price, for a domain you call reg fee, lol be my guest, nothing comes without risk. Some names just hit people in a different way than others. The future of gas is very up in there air, even if fuel cells, and alt fuels are used, gas will still be an option, in the UK they are paying close to $9 per gallon for fuel. Gas Futures are traded on the commodity markets, as I type this, the half hour news just stating on the tv that gas has now hit $4 per gal. Not everyone gets it right, not me, not other posters, who thought every YOU domain would be worth anything, that is reg fee too right?

Crude oil and refined product prices have been rising. Energy domain prices may be rising, I haven't seen that reported. If true, an upward trend alone is not necessarily a good reason to jump onboard.

User filter offered gasofthefuture.com in post 2. You dismissed it as being registered 5 years ago. It is unregistered.

Gas is a terrific keyword. Short, easy to spell, decent ad bids, with a meaning that extends from gasoline to industrial products, spicy food and much more. Very much in the news today and in the future. My lack of enthusiasm for the domain futuregas.com is due to the odd word combination with no search frequency, no application demanding to be filled and no reason to expect search frequency to grow. Gas futures are huge, but "future gas" is not exactly on the tip of anyone's tongue. Gas has been around a long time. It has always had a future. The domain is a branding project waiting to happen, nothing more, nothing less.

I admit that many other future(keyword).com names are registered, but how are those working out for the holders? A quick google search of "future" shows some future(keyword).com results on the first few pages, none that I've heard of, never mind household names. Has anyone seen any impressive sales of future(keyword) names?

Here's a couple of unregistered names:
futuresaudiarabia.com
futurevenezuela.com
Would I register them? No. Would you? Probably not. The sales pitch? Why own an unspecified amount of gas (futuregas) when you can own an entire country with huge known reserves of petroleum and the infrastructure to recover, process and deliver it! Plus lots of people, real estate and other stuff! Maybe these would be more desirable on the aftermarket for $xxxx each.

You(keyword).com domains? Reg fee or less. We'll save it for another thread.

gasofthefuture.com is a lame domain, it was futurefuel.com that I said was reg 5 years ago, stop twisting words, and trying to read between the lines, You think you maybe right, but you could be wrong, yes gas has been around for many many years, and will continue to be, but it has been taken granted for, and is now deemed as a scarce resource that people need on a daily basis. The fact that you state eco/fuel domains have not gone up in value, and you have not seen this indicator, only shows how clued out you are. I see very little insight in your post.

Actually the name makes little sense to me however If you are going to develop you could just reg Future-Gas.com and save a couple of thousand- or give the savings to me :gl:

AmericanGas.com $2,470 Mar 07

GasToGo.com $2,300 Nov 06 BuyDomains

CompressedNaturalGas.com $2,255 Apr 08 Afternic

LiquifiedNaturalGas.com $2,100 Mar 07 BuyDomains

CheapGas.com $150,000 Jun 05 Private Note: these two words go to gether like a hand in a glove and everyone wants gas cheap

Mangas.com $61,000 Jul 07 Sedo Note: It think this name refers to the highly stylized Japanese comic art known as Manga

Gas.mobi $9,100 Dec 07 Sedo Note: Top generic 3 letter .mobi

GasMeter.com $7,077 Dec 06 SnapNames Note: A gas meter is a real life product for measuring gas as seen on the side of houses with a large market for the product

MGas.com $4,000 Jan 08 Afternic Note: Quad premium LLLL.com including the word gas. The 'M' could also stand for a persons name or company

IndustrialGas.com $3,888 Aug 07 Afternic Note: These words were not put togeter because they 'sound funky' Industrial gas is a real gas used in industrial manufacture in factories

BlueGas.com $3,500 May 06 Sedo Note: Blue is highly brandable and probably was the name of someones business they wanted the name for

GasCreditCard.org $2,950 Mar 07 Moniker Note: A credit card just for gas dicounts etc, very useful

VaneGas.com $2,488 Dec 07 Afternic27 Note: End user was probably called 'vane' and was branching into using gas

GasCrisis.com $2,488 Mar 07 BuyDomains Note: Oil crisis is a heavily used term, gas crisis is hanging of the same use of the term crisis as gas and oil are pretty much the same thing

AmericanGas.com $2,470 Mar 07 Note: Says it all American Gas, for proud American gas company

GasToGo.com $2,300 Nov 06 BuyDomains Note: Catchy and brandable domain name for swapping gas tanks for outdoor dining, as the website that is there now states

CompressedNaturalGas.com $2,255 Apr 08 Afternic Note: A bit long IMO but the words flow and are straight to the point for gas company

LiquifiedNaturalGas.com $2,100 Mar 07 BuyDomains Note: this name is generic or almost generic in nature and says it all

If you want to buy FutureGas.com, go ahead, everyone likes to sell domains to someone who really wants a domain and is willing to pay for it. But comparing FutureGas.com to the names you listed above would not be recommended IMO, as each of them as I have noted had underlying reasons for their prices seperate to one another. Kind of like comparing apples to oranges

I think domain names (in particular two word domain names) should be looked upon for their own merits. Short domains like LLLL.com can be compared to each other for "reseller" prices, but that is a different story and all the info you could want can be found in the short domains discussion on that subject

About FutureGas.com: Do I like FutureGas.com (no comment). What matters is you like FutureGas.com! And thats all that matters in the end ! Your not buying it to flip anyway right :tu:

Thanks for your advice filter, especially on these domains --> GasOfTheFuture / FutureFuel / NewGas / NovaGas .... but they are all taken over 5 years ago.

I found a few more gems for you:
futuresolarsystem.com
futurealuminum.com
futuretitanium.com

Good luck with the sales purchasing decision.

Know the value of the keyword

Read Dnj,

many longer names have sold for more than $50,000 if the name represents a large market.

Clean energy investment is the fastest growing energy business today.

Renewable energy may very well be the next bubble.

A few years ago clean energy investment was 3 billion a year investment, now its over 117 billion dollars!.

Future gas as a name and keyword represents zero markets now and in the future. Now if you had the real name "gasfutures" like many here have commented on, you would have a name that represents the amount of money that clean energy investment represents.

Clean energy investment has grown worldwide from 2 billion dollars four years ago to over 170 billion dollars in 2007. And you say my name is worthless?

Shows what page I am on with domaining and it shows what page you may be on.

Huge investment money is flowing into clean energy. Google the keywords with qoutes, "clean energy investment".

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/02/06/clean.energy.ap/index.html

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q="clean+energy+investment"&btnG=Google+Search

Thats a big mistake alot of domainers make. Don't worry, other domainers make the same mistake. I recently sent the name to Rick Latona and he did not see the value either, of course I did not provide any facts thinking as a pro he would look up the value. I am sure he did not.

Domainers think making up a word phrase and keeping it short will pay off.

That works some of the time. What you really want to do is find the biggest market you can and then grab the best domain that desribes it. Future gas or clean energy investment are the keywords. Take your pick. Like a member stated though, its your choice.

Its ok you do not like the name, cleanenergyinvestment.com. You may not be able afford to buy it anyway.

If you plan to develop the domain then it would make sense to purchase but I would try to negotiate the price first as it seems a bit high. If you were planning to buy just with the intent to resell then it wouldn't make much sense based on the word combination, search results, etc.

I would recommend registering FutureGases.com which is presently available if you do intend to purchase FutureGas.com.

If anyone registers FutureGases.com feel free to send me some $NP. :)

I own FuelReport.com ... $11K BIN for limited time. Escrow.com 50/50 buyer/seller fee split.

In regards to your question ... first my thoughts...

FutureGas.com is a nice name and potentially ideal if your target audience is mostly non-business consumers; people seeking out the best gas price, etc.

However, if your target is business, then, in my view, FutureGas is too limited ... businesses often utilize many different energy sources for their transportation / facilities, including diesel, methane, biofuel, electric, etc.

In regards to the price ... a domain is worth what someone else is willing to pay; are their suitable alternatives available for less than $2400? ... ultimately that's a question you'll have to decide.

With that said, based on my cursory search of similar domains, $2,400 appears reasonable...

I found a similar domain, GasFuture.com (words reversed) at BuyDomains with a $3,152 BIN.

Some other similar domains, which may better, but may be difficult, and likely expensive, to acquire...

FutureFuels.com is taken and doesn't appear to be for sale. However, FutureFuel.com, FuelFuture(s).com domains all appear to potentially be for sale, but none have BINs and thus will involve negotiations; very likely any of them will cost as much, if not more, as FutureGas.com

Hope this helps, and if interested in FuelReport.com, let me know. I've received some offers for it in the past from end-users in the energy business.

Is it:

1. FutureGas = alternative fuel?

2. FutureGas = futures / options trading in gasoline/fuel?

3. FutureGas = predicting gas prices in the future?

If you want #1, something like "AmazingFuel" may fit better... ;)

Good luck with your search!
