Fuming MAD (with hosting provider)

I'm seriously angry with this person. He brought me into hosting and I know **** about it. And when I ask him questions he will give me the irritated look. Yes I know he covers the back end stuffs of our server budden I'm a complete noob! It's just crazy. I know nuts and I'm paying $100 per month for the server and not using it fully. I feel so stupid and now I've no more money in my bank, and my uni gonna start in a few months. What **** is this?

A simple question of asking him how to reg a domain, he just ignore or get irritated. What is this? He brought me into hosting and I'm only a pre-u IT student knowing nothin! I don't know how to go on man. It's a tough world.

Why are you paying $100 a month?

Just looking to vent a little, or are you seeking advice? If the latter, the obvious question would be why did you get the server in the first place?

thank you guys for ur concern. i really appreciate it. It's a dedicated server, $100 is in Singapore dollars(sorry was too angry when i typed that forgot to change the currency) which is about USD$68 (plus a script). We share the server. He already has a hang of web design, hosting and domain stuffs. He approached me oneday to share the server which i tot it's easy to conduct the business. He also say it's very easy. But 4 months in to the business i reap nothing monetary.

I got 2 domains in my hand which m not using:

ubuntuOS.com
ImageOK.com

I hope i can create a image hosting/sharing website and earn some adsense $ cos i'm going to university in August and i need $ to study..

The guy who share with me is also in this forum. I'm not blaming him. But i jus hope he can enlighten me at time and not get irritated. You're earning, i'm losing money everyday dude.

Well you can learn. Just ask us around here to help you out. $68 a month isn't bad. How big is it? (Your half)

Well, just to clear things up. I'm his web hosting provider and I'm sharing half of the server with him. I was the one who referred him to NamePros and provide him with some guidance to help him get started.

I even sold one of my favourite websites at such a low cost to help him get started. The website I sold him can easily fetch $xx to low $xxx. However I only sold to him for SGD$30 (~USD$17.85)

The server specifications is a Intel P4 2.8GHz + HT / 120 GB HDD / 1G RAM (It's an unmanaged server from Layeredtech). I have been covering all the backend stuff (Security, Firewall, CPanel updates, installing additional Apache modules, monitering server load - none of which he knows about). I even taught him how to register a domain using my subreseller accounts. I gave him the link to the domain control panel again and again yet he is still asking the same question.

Also, the last question he asked was about Nameservers. I've already told him 3 days ago (In fact, yesterday i told him too) and today he is still asking me what is his Nameservers.

And he's complaining he doesnt have any customers (Is that my fault? We're just sharing the server - and everyone do business in different ways.)

John: i'm not earning anything
John: i dun have allowance
John: i'm broke
John: my parents thinks i'm earning
John: my brother thinks i can earn a few k one month
John: u think i like that
John: i rather start studying and get allowances

For those who are wondering about the monthly operation cost, the total cost for the server rental itself is USD$115 (~SGD$193+) (Cpanel included). Im offering him monthly leased license at SGD$10.00/month (~USD$5.95).

And I'm charging him SGD$110/month (~USD65$) with server administration + ClientExec. (No, you're not going to get this offer by private messaging me. Being a kind person I offered him that special price)

And it's kinda hard to provide support for you until you cleared your overdue invoices - SGD$350 (Server fees, + bunch of domain registrations)

Thank you. :)

wow, this sounds like you might have been talked into something you know nothing about. it may take several months/years before you even see a profit. I am curious to know if either of you have a business plan? If so mind sharing? IMO, the hosting and domain name business is a very crowed and hard business to start. and like any business needs careful planning to be successful and even then may fail. of course this is just my opinion.

Johntxy there is a hosting forum called www.webhostingtalk.com the forum caters to n000bs and professionals alike and probably the largest hosting forum on the net. Many people start a hosting company with just a Reseller account. and sounds to me like you should have also. IMO, if your not happy with your ROI you may want to reconsider investing any more money until you educate yourself. and of course all of this is just my opinion.

:imho: :p :|

I wanted to close this thread the moment i posted it. But i dunno how to.

yeah, i know it takes several months(or even years to start). I started my hosting with you in the mist of my pre-u exams n i paid TWO months of hosting for nothing because my parents do not allow me to conduct anyform of business while preparing for exams. But i still paid.

I seriously think we should be mature adults and not blow over such things. I dun want to point names here but here,u revealed yourself.

I DID not blame you regarding the point of having no customer I was jus hoping to downsize my % of server share as why do a NOOB need 60GB of STORAGE? ( and i thank you for willing to downsize it)

I thank you everytime you help me cos i know i might be disturbing you or irritating you. I'm sorry but i'm a noob. You gave me GOLD but this noob dunno what it is and took it as rubbish. I think it's not very nice to post what we chat on MSN on a forum.
I did not do it that to you.

oh yah, regarding the sale of the website you asked me what price do i want to pay and i jus say $30? You think i know whats the market rate? I DUNNO! And you willingly agreed. And again I'm thankful now.

John, maybe you should cut your loses as its obvious you know very little, but seems you are keen, why not get yourself a small reseller account, thats how many new web hosts start off, theres really no need to offer domain registrations as these are 2 a penny.

If things are awkward between business partners, it's not a good base for a business.

Hope you get things sorted.

thank you reaperUK. Yup, i've asked for a smaller portion of reseller account. If we go by the books, i suppose to inform him one month earlier and the follow month he'll downsize my reseller account. But we agreed on TWO months instead. I also gave way to him.

Yah, and ReaperUK, he's my classmate for 4 years. I trust him loads.
