I've noticed that there are quite a few available french language .com IDNS.

...Do such things hold much value?
Are there any reported sales of these to compare?

Thanks

edit-
....In retrospect this should maybe have gone in the IDN section.

I don't have any facts or research to base my assumptions on, but I think IDNs go together much better with local .cctlds than .com. IMO...

French IDNs get quite a bit of traffic. Just make sure you do your homework on the term (ie. Ovt, Google trends, SERP, etc).

Most French websites seem to prefer the .fr extention, which is one of the stronger (if not one of the strongest?) ccTLD's in term of potential and usage. I do believe you need a French residency to buy them :( unless this has been recently changed.

However, good keywords in French will still be valuable with .com . But I think the .fr variant will always be worth even more.

I am not aware of good French .com IDNs available. Those I looked for were taken, I had to console myself with a .net (I do have commeรงa.com that gets visits but it is two words).

Thanks for the opinions. I decided to register Dรฉsirรฉ.com and Dรฉsirรฉs.com.

Hopefully they're not so bad.

I'm a native french speaker and I would cancel these 2 if I could, sorry :(
If you need advice just ask, or I can seek domains in auctions for your niche for a commission fee.

You could keep the singular as it is a first name. I don't understand the use of the plural form?

Aaah, okay, thanks. Luckily I have I think 128 hours left to delete the domains for a full refund.

To be honest, the sole reason I registered "Dรฉsirรฉs" was because it gives me over 24,000,000 Google hits. I assumed that so many Google hits must be a good indicator of value. Maybe not always the case.

In future I think I'll try to take thefabfive's advice

Thanks.

This is true. However, when you search for "Dรฉsirรฉs" (with quotes in Google) you get 34MM results. So it does appear that the French word is used, but perhaps not by itself very often.

When searching for words with accents or non-ASCII characters always include the quotes in the search. This gives you a more accurate idea of the instances of the word on web pages.

Oh, right, yes, that's what I did.
I always use quotes in my IDN Google searches.

Thanks.
