Hybrid airships are approximately 10 times cheaper to purchase than the Airbus A380 cargo plane and are significantly more fuel efficient. Airships are capable of landing in remote locations as they do not require a runway.
Modern airships are filled with non-flammable helium, unlike the luxury Zeppelin airship, which used flammable hydrogen in the 1930s. The Lockheed Martin hybrid airship is capable of carrying 47,000lbs, including 19 passengers at a maximum cruise speed of 100mph. The airship can stay airborne for 30 hours, and even up to 20 days at a reduced speed.
