No, Google does not forbid the selling of Gmail invites. Which is why you still see hundreds being sold on ebay to this day.

The reason why they allow the selling of invites and not accounts is because many people were trying to create popular and trademarked names in hopes of selling them for a good profit. Google didn't like this since it wasn't exactly spreading the word, but creating a bunch of unused accounts. Now if people sold the invites, it would be promoting Gmail and generate accounts that are actually used.

If interested, here's an article on the selling of Gmail accounts.

Gmail - Google SMS

Will Google integrate their SMS ap into their Gmail system? Whatever happened with the Gmail name dispute? resolved? still in limbo? acquisition? In any case, you've got to excuse Google for its few lapses -- it's developing some amazing aps - not "killer aps" but solid and user-friendly - now if they only worked on their branding -- Gmail is a great - short and sweet - and it works as Google mail Gigamail, etc -- but Google SMS for the name of a significant ap-- they can do better! whaddya think?

I don't know much about Google's SMS but I do know people are working on the option to check your email via mobile device. Here's a related article: http://www.ocasta.co.uk/mt/archives/2004/10/gmailchecker_1.html

Hehe, nope. It does get overloaded fairly easily though since it's running on a weak server.
