The situation and why I am doing work for free:

I graduated with a CS degree a couple of years ago. It was as rigorous and academic as you might expect. I Worked for an aerospace company right after, accumulated a small fortune after 10 months and mostly quit out of boredom (no programming, mostly reviewing/testing and waiting for work) and in order dedicate more time to broadening my horizons.

Since then I've been trying to read as many books as my attention span permits. But now my dwindling aerospace fortune beckons for me to brush up on my programming abilities before I have to explain the time gap in my resume. Besides, everybody wants to be a freelance consultant, right? Reputations and portfolios don't come out of thin air.

Looking for:

Volunteer experience with small, very short-term projects (week to a month) along the lines of testing, maintenance, documentation, and reviewing. I feel confident that I can fix bugs and come up with formal test cases, but I definitely cannot write the next Web 3.0 startup from scratch. I have tried - and will try again in time.

Languages I've been exposed to:

Java, C, C# C++, IBM 360 Assembly, FORTRAN, SNOBOL, Python, Lua, Matlab, Actionscript3, PHP, and javascript.

APIs and Frameworks:

I have spent a lot of time playing with more APIs than I can remember, but I never got anywhere because I did not have the free time, business acumen, or broad enough knowledge base to know what to build. Still, I will not be lost if I need to use one.

The reason I'm posting on this site is I had a previous account a few years ago. I wanted to get-rich-quick, and so I failed because I lacked understanding. Failure, experience, and books taught me a lot since that time, and so I guess there is this sentimental reason to come back and do a better job.

Please PM or reply at your discretion.

Thank you,
Robert Qualls.
